Championship Wait List

Our team preregistered for Championships soon after the first round of open registration started, but due to delays with our sponsors we couldn't get the payment before the event filled up. I was wondering what people knew about the wait list, particularly how many teams usually get pulled off it and when those teams are determined.

It is not my intent to give you false hope. FIRST reserves a certain amount of slots for teams that qualify during the regionals. Many times the regional qualifiers are all ready registered for the Championship and some of the teams that qualify are not able to go to the Championship. This usually means that teams on the wait list do get the opportunity to go. If there is any problem with this it is that you are not given much notice. I know that for each of the last four or five years the team that I mentor has always at least been given the opportunity to go. This is only my experience and may not be the norm. I can promise you that as we are all ready on the Championship list we will do our best to make sure that up to five slots open up by qualifing at both of the regionals we are attending. Your best bet will be to get on the wait list ASAP. My guess is that with the addition of several new regionals this year is that FIRST reserved more slots that ever before.
