FRC488 Drive Train Video

...thought some folks might care to look at some video of our drive train that we have up on YouTube.

First test: http://youtube.com/watch?v=doC8a85LIRI

Second test: http://youtube.com/watch?v=_NADyncGZNE

It doesn't drift quite as well on the carpet as it does on the wood floor, for better or for worse.

Yes -- the center wheels are 4x1" IFI Traction Wheels and the corner wheels are custom-built 4" omniwheels.

Nice chassis and great driving. If y'all could figure out how to get the power slide working on the carpet, you're going to be hard to beat!

Helloooo from the North East
Chassis looks great with a super drive set up. How fast is the bot? Great job after only 2 weeks. GOOD LUCK from Team 88 TJ2 and MOE

The time and weight savings over what we build in house (also probably single speed) were too great to pass up.

It still power slides on the carpet, but not quite as well as on the wooden floors. It's a bit hard to control, actually, so we'll probably be trying to find some way to better manage cornering.

Thanks. It moves between 12-14 ft/sec. with no weight on it. It'll slow down as we continue to pile things on top. It's been great having something for folks to play with for a while now, though.

They're cheaper than comparable transmissions -- custom or otherwise -- and they're much easier to assemble than a custom transmission of any stripe. They're also smaller and lighter than almost anything else out there.

We saved machine time, money, and weight by using these and, for our pains, get three-speeds and reliability for almost no development time. We made a handful of minor changes -- mostly to how we mounted the transmissions and how we attached the CIM pinion -- but using these was almost a no-brainer once I'd started looking into them seriously.
