A PBS television show coming to a station in your area in Febuary:

BOLD VISIONS: WOMEN IN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY glimpses into the lives of extraordinary women working in the fields of science and technology: a research scientist searching for genetic causes of diseases, an astronaut applying her engineering expertise in space and a results-driven technologist responsible for numerous patents. Their exciting and collaborative work not only improves the quality of lives around the world but underscores the need for the United States to nurture its home-grown female talent in these male-dominated fields. During the documentary, Academy Award-winning actor Marcia Gay Harden (Pollack)and CSI: NYstar Melina Kanakaredes recall the science-related experiences of their youth, discuss the impact of teachers on their lives and speak about the desire for their daughters to remain open to careers in the fields of math and science. In addition, high-school girls from an engineering program in southern Texas built a wind turbine to generate electricity for lights at a community center.

Mr. Cameron is one of the teachers who mentors Falcon Robotics out of Arizona, FRC 842. He is a guiding light for those of us who are interested in or contend with issues that face minorities and young women. As you become more familiar with ChiefDelphi, you will find many discussions regarding how we can interest girls in the fields of science and technology and keep them interested through high school and into college.

This thread was created by Mr. Cameron, bringing our attention to a program on PBS that addresses these issues. It doesn't take away from the involvement of men and 'guys' in the fields of science, technology, and engineering. It contributes to what we are doing and can do to continue to open these fields to young girls and their futures. It's a win/win for everyone.
