Re: Robonauts 118 - Unveiled '08

From what I could see in the video it looked like there was one big (1.5") piston. I could be wrong...

Re: Robonauts 118 - Unveiled '08

i think that they use that piston next to the motor there to disengage some gear or dog of some kind that allows thier winch shaft to spin free. then the dog reingages to allow them to winch down the catapult again. im not shure, i will have to ask at LSR

Re: Robonauts 118 - Unveiled '08

I agree, so then my question is, how do they "lock" the gears from moving, or do they hold it down by continuing to run the motor at a low speed. This would explain the fan on top to cool it down from all the heat generated by doing this. Am I right or do you think they are doing something else?

Re: Robonauts 118 - Unveiled '08

it would seem, since the winch only spins one direction that a ratchet type mechanism on the motor side of the release gear/dog would keep the system from back driving.

EDIT: after examining the video for like 10 minutes i can see the entire thing, the motor has a ratchet, the pneumatic engages and disengages a crown gear that transfers power between the motor and the winch shaft. done!

Whoever said that hurdling capability wouldn't be too important just got proved wrong. I can see that bot hurdling at least ten times in a match. Also…

My guess would be that their ball collector arms are just tall enough or have the ability to reach up for this very purpose to knock the ball off in Hybrid mode. I would also guess that they are able to dial in the amount of throw by adjusting the wind-up on the winch for their double spring-loaded launcher. With some practice and possibly automation I'll bet even money that they can line up a soft shot for landing on the over-head rack for the bonus points during end-game. This robot is every thing that I would have expected from the Robonauts, except the launcher. My team was guessing an elevator lift on the turret / crab base / V6

Unfortunately, Dave is right - they will have to completely redesign their entire robot because they left out the flag holder

Job well done and looking forward to Lone Star

obviously the flag holder and ball knocker offer are part of a subassembly that has not been installed yet...

Great job Robonauts!
