Re: Render Farm

depends on what you put into it. It you were unwise and added an unnecessary amount of GI, Final gather, raytracing, light tracer, hair and fur, and anything else you can think of I'm pretty sure you can jack up the render time to about a week per frame. That is if you really wanted too.

You have until the 15th, so do your calculations. You need to get it uploaded by then.

Re: Render Farm

Unfortunately, we really can't help you with this question. The best you can do is render for a few hours and see how far it gets.

Even then, your render time will fluctuate wildly depending on what is in each frame.

Start rendering drafts early so you aren't surprised later. If you can render something with 1/4 the resolution in X hours, expect the full copy to take 4X hours, sorta.

Re: Render Farm

IIRC, doubling the output resolution quadruples rendering time. Not sure where I heard that from (might've been a book on media animation for 3DS Max 4), but I remember it well.

Re: Render Farm

If you double both linear dimensions of a rectangle you quadruple the area:

320 x 240 = 76,800 pixels.
640 x 480 = 307,200 pixels (4X the lower resolution)
720 x 480 = 345,600
