Yikes. Gloves while belt sanding. Might want to reconsider that.
When in absence of a lathe (which is rare), I like to use a drill press or even cordless drill. But yes, a lot can be done with basic tools. Nice work.

3 shafts turned down to 1/4" on one end....
I'm guessing two for attaching endless pots via surgical tubing and drive, and the 3rd for the arm...
