Question QUESTION OF THE WEEK!!! [09-23-01]

QUESTION OF THE WEEK!!! [09-23-01]
Hi all, after all the regional competitions, National, and off-season competitions, I am everyone have a pretty good idea about this. So, here is the question of the week:

QUESTION 9/23/01: Which teams have the best way(s) to show their spirit during competitions? Or in other words, which teams do you think have the best cheers, logo...?

Either it's their cheers, noises, mascot, flags, or the souvenirs they hand out... Of course, as long as they are tolerable to others. Which brings up another question, where should we draw the line between acceptable and unacceptable?

Have fun,
-Ken Leung

P.S. I apologize for all the boring questions I asked before, from now on I will try to come up with more interesting QOTW... Reading the old questions of Andy Grady really helped!

P.P.S. Oh by the way, GO TEAM BAR-LOK!!! (Even if I am the only one in this team... )

Well, I'll obvoiusly be doing my pin collecting. I know a lot of teams will probably have some sort of American Pride to their decorations/souvineers/shirts. Right now, I (personally) am looking into custom inflatables (long story).

Now, let me ask you something: How can you tell if something is unacceptable or not? There is a very thin line. Although I don't think any team has crossed it in the past, so really, I don't think you have to worry.

Red face maybe I wasn't clear in the question...

Well, the question is merely asking what cheers/logo/pins/flags.... people have seen in last year's regional, national, and off season competitions.

The west coast teams have always been lacking something in term of spirits, and I am trying to find examples to show them...

As for demonstration of spirits being acceptable/unacceptable, there was always the issue about certain noise makers being too loud and annoying during competitions, as well as large flags blocking the view of spectators (there's a rule now that say teams can't bring large flag to competitions). So, I am just wondering what are people's standards for those demonstrations being acceptable/unacceptable...

P.S. GO TEAM BAR-LOK!!! (Even if I am the only one in this team... )

Well, some of the ones that come right to my mind would be the following -

Team 88 - Thunderdrums and thundersticks (alas the sticks are no more), and you can't forget the Moe socks....

Team 105 - yeah, you know them from this year as the cowbell people And the launching of the stuffed animals at BattleCry was just too funny. This is what happens when you give the techie kids too much free time

Team 190 - Ok, there was no way I could ignore the hampster power cheer....just waaaay too strange especially at River Rage

Team 168 - A little Miami, FL team that looked like hippies, and no matter the odds cheered like crazy waving their tie dyed flags. You could even see their spirit on the pit tent celing as they shone a light right to the top projecting their logo.

Team 237 - these guys are plain nuts, and armed with their digeridoos, they are both seen and heard

Team 419 - come on, the guys from BC High have made quite a showing for themselves in the past 2 years. One of the most memorable was in 2000 as they painted their ally's name on their chests and then ran around Richmond screaming....still one of the funnier bits of tape I think in my collection

I guess I have to say that I think my team has at least some spirit because of our capes. We still are rather laking, though. I must agree with anyone who said that certain noisemakers got annoying. But that's just me and this like that bug me.

The only noise makers that really annoy me are cow bells and people who beat on iron skillets or frying pans with metal spoons. Most other things don't bother me, unless someone uses a fog horn right behind my head. When people dress up like their school/team's mascot are really eye catching. I tend to ermember them. The team at nats who had kilts and bagpipes were good to, although I don't know who they are because they didn't compete on my field. Ok, that's enough.
