24v solenoids, What year(s) and how many ?
Anyone remember what year(s) 24 v solenoids were accidently shipped in the kit and how many there would have been (2 24v pilot values per double acting solenoid and 1 per single acting solenoid). I would have thought one year (ie five 24v pilot valves).
Unfortunately I found TEN 24v pilot valves mounted on solenoids on our in our inventory (the hard way, by installing them on our 2008 robot: ouch). Unless SMC twice shipped 24v valves, all I can think of is someone on our team in a past year ordered some more 24v solenoids accidently based on part numbers of the existing solenoids not being aware they were 24v solenoids. Now we have $200+ worth of 24v pilot valves. Anyone have any use for them ? I guess they are the norm in industrial installations. Last edited by de_ : 23-03-2008 at 14:36. Reason: spelling |

Re: 24v solenoids, What year(s) and how many ?
I don't remember the year (2004 was my rookie year; I think it was either then or 2005), but I recall a team update saying that the SMC valves of that year were 12V stuck with a 24V-labeled part included. (Something about what was available for them to grab for the KoP donation.) I'd root around for some old documents before calling it a total loss.

they were included last year as well (i put them on the robot not knowing about them). as far as uses for them....PLC's! PLC's a lot of the time run off of 24v, well at least the ones we use at school, so old FIRST KoP solenoids will at least have a use for us!

24vdc shipped last year. then later you received a 12vdc coil kit to change them out. so keep digging and find them and change the coils and you are good to go.

Re: 24v solenoids, What year(s) and how many ?
Thanks for the input. I am told 2007 had 24v pilot valves and SMC sent 5 replacement valves which I have found and installed.
I'm trying to explain why I found 10 24v valves, not just 5. Its water under the bridge but I would love to know if it happened twice or maybe someone on my team ordered the wrong ones sometime over the past 5 years. Just another proof of Murphies Laws. |
