Sadly, with the exception of '99 and '95 I don't think our old robots were even worth keeping
In my opinion, they're almost always worth keeping, even if they didn't work, newer kids can always learn what doesn't work and why.

If we'd kept all our duds we'd have run outa space long ago

Some of the earliest robots were made out of wooden pallets and conduit. Some of those robots were designed to be disassembled, so we could fit them in a box to ship them to nationals.

Re: What do you guys do with your old robots?

We use them for training purposes mostly.

We don't really have the space to hang on to all of our robots, so we currently only have three. Our 2008 competition robot, its practice clone, and our 2007 competition robot.

We're hanging on to the 2007 robot until we (can't really say that anymore) they build a new robot that serves as a better demo bot.

We have to disassemble them for parts and even toss some that aren't really useful and are just taking up space.

Re: What do you guys do with your old robots?

All but 1 of our 14 robots is still with us and working. We have cage space in our basement that we keep them all in. It's a shame we can't display them somehow.

The other day, we brought up 6 of them to make sure they are working properly. We usually spend the summers maintaining old robots for parades and demos.

we store our old robots in the library as a "display" for students to see. then we take them to the lab whenever we need them for driving practice, demonstrations, or programing.

Re: What do you guys do with your old robots?

2001 was a very rookie robot and only the chassis survived for a two or three years.
2002 was a tank of a chassis and was all welded so it's chassis survived for many years but may have been chopped down to a base for some purpose or other.
2003 I am drawing a blank
2004 was the year that the drive system made it nearly impossible to drive but once again the drive base was welded and still survives with each year on the option list to be used as a motorized robot cart.
2005 Regional Champion with 118 & 231 has been refitted with steel pipe air storage and barrel for tee shirt cannon use at football games and most recently minor league baseball.
2006 Was an omni-wheel kiwi drive that was really cool and rebuilt while in Atlanta due to shipping damage that most likely resulted in the 2007 rule about crate design being added to the team shipping manual. Was recently used to test IFI Mecanum wheels, though not finished. Conveyor design was used to design this year's robot.
2007 used for the Beta test this fall of the cRIO
2008 alive and working, used for demo purposes as the boxing gloves are way to cool.
2009 still waiting to get it back from Atlanta.

Re: What do you guys do with your old robots?

2188 is a young team and we have 3 robots now. Here is the status of each:

2007 "Fatboy" - Recognizable, and a weeks worth of work will get it running again

2008 "Hurricane" - Destroyed, not by us, by the competition

2009 "Nuke" - Running, and we plan to keep it that way

Re: What do you guys do with your old robots?

Well, we generally keep the robot we have all the way up until the season, but once the season starts, we generally disassemble the robot in order to scavenge parts. And since the economic crunch, this has become more important for us.

Re: What do you guys do with your old robots?

2002-2006 - Disassembled
2007 - With a couple of components, it is fully functional; used this past season for an off-season project
2008 - Stripped down to a drivebase originally for testing the new control system; planning to use it for prototyping

Our school's science department kindly granted us what is essentially a part of a hallway for our lab. We don't really have space to keep old robots.
