Robot Material
Can anyone tell me if we can use a hockey stick as material on past bots? NOT WOOD. I have several sticks made from a composit material.

Re: Robot Material
You can most definitely use hockey sticks and that is actually a great idea since they are really strong and light. I believe team 40 used them this past year for their arm. All of this could change in the upcoming season but based on last season they are legal.

Re: Robot Material
I know that team 1006 in 2006 used a pair of hockey sticks on their bot.

I couldn't find a picture of 40 from '08, but I didn't remember sticks on there. |

Re: Robot Material
It probably was team 20 then. I wasn't sure of the team # I just knew I saw one. Here is a picture of team 20 from this year http://picasaweb.google.com/skowski/...69261362798018 and http://picasaweb.google.com/skowski/...73741013688514

Re: Robot Material
I'm curious on the cost account rules for broken hockey sticks.
Presumably, if they are recovered from a garbage can they can be accounted as "zero cost". We used a couple of broken carbon fibre sticks courtesy of the Portland Winterhawks (who share the Memorial Colliseum in Portland) when our floor hockey sticks turned out to not be quite as flexible as we had assumed... at least not when driven by "Crash" as she was quickly renamed. Re: Robot Material
Team 20 used them in 2007 for sure, but from what I understand (depending on what you choose) they can be fairly expensive.

Re: Robot Material
We've used cake pans and an extension ladder, so there's no reason that hockey sticks shouldn't be allowed... I wouldn't recommend using a lot of insanely expensive ones because it could theoretically disqualify you based on the components' total cost limit, however.

Re: Robot Material
Team 40 has never done hockey sticks, but team 340 has in both 2008 and 2007

Re: Robot Material
In the past the rules have allowed most materials that can be purchased by any team for under $400. New hockey sticks would be allowed (unless they're really expensive), older ones would not be allowed (they can't be purchased by any team as a commercial off the shelf item).
