Flash Drive Error
Hi!
Hi, I have bought a new Sandisk USB 2.0 Flash Drive. It has been working fine until last night when I plugged it into my laptop. When I double clicked the drive, a pop-up shows "Access is denied". I found it very strange. So I right click it and see whether it is something wrong with security reason. However, after I have made it shared and set permissions for everyone to full control it, the problem still persists. I've also reformatted it multiple times with FAT32, and NTFS using both XP & Vista. A screenshot of the error message. I'm not sure what to do, and any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank You. |

Re: Flash Drive Error
What kind of laptop is it?
if it is a mac, i had the same problem, if you set a password for your jumpdrive on a PC, and then plug it into a MAC, it will deny you access. to solve, use a PC to disable the password, and then you should be all set. also another note, if it comes with U3 DELETE IT, i dont know if that could cause the problem, but it SUCKS. |

I am using a Dell XP Professional, and have tried it on HP XP Media Center desktop as well. I've reformatted the drive using MMC, right clicking on the drive, and the HP USB Disk Format Tool. Also, U3 has been removed from the Flash Drive. Thank You |

Re: Flash Drive Error
I have become a fan of clicking of the drive icon in the tray and doing the "Safely Remove Hardware" process. I have never bricked a flash drive, but that may be what you did.

Re: Flash Drive Error
Ok, that might be the problem - I generally don't do the "Safely Remove Hardware" process. So is there anything that can be done, or do I have to throw my flash drive away and get a new one?

Re: Flash Drive Error
Failure to use the "safely remove" functionality shouldn't brick a flash drive(all it does to causes the computer to sync the delayed-write buffer). And reformatting in theory would correct any problem that came from this anyway...
Does the flash drive work on other computers?(and do other flash drives work on that computer?) |

Re: Flash Drive Error
I have to ask if you have loaded any software that talks to your USB ports? Flash drives get finicky with USB settings. You might try the old cold boot to clear any problems with the USB drivers and ports in case you haven't yet.
