Re: whats up with the demo program...?

I work at the same site as the guys who made the simulation. Not only did they sign an NDA ahead of time, but they refuse to let me even peek at the simulation ahead of launch. They did tell me that if you choose so, there will be 5 other robots controlled by AI to contend with...so I'm looking forward to it coming out. Also, this year I don't believe there are any 'fancy' drive trains, but the current hope/plan is that future years will have holonomic drives.

Their projected launch date is January 20th. Now keep in mind, this is unofficial and not from FIRST so that date may change! This is so that the simulation does not influence the basis of a team's design.

That makes sense. Thanks.

Same....I'm really excited to see how everything is going to come together, and also how the demo will compare to how everything actually ends up.

I promise you, so are they! The lead of the group went to his first ever FIRST event last year at VCU, and he was immediately addicted to it.

Re: whats up with the demo program...?

Folks,

We are glad you are excited! - So are we (and just a bit panicked!)
Take a look here: Link to recent 5th Gear discussion
and here: 5th Gear discussion with links to other FRC simulation threads
I have been pointing all interested folks to these two threads so that we can limit the number of parallel conversations

Blake
PS: I'm working on the AI. Think more in terms of a Chevy than a Masaratti, if you know what I mean - The initial release will have some basic run-around-in-a-pattern sort of mostly passive activities, and I'll crank up the competition they give you in a software update or two (notice the mention of a dose of panic above). This year they are mostly intended to fill in for missing humans (simulation users, not the real-word game's Payload Specialist human players). Your true opponents in a simulated match will be your friends sitting at the other PCs on your LAN.

Let me make a deal with you - so that I can avoid having a heart attack in the next few days?

How about if you force your self to assume that it is going to "fun"; and then if we make it up the scale to ordinary "awsome", you will be delighted.

I'm not sure that we have it in our power to reach frikin awesome

You guys really know how to add stress to a humble mentor's life....
