Question Call me an optimist...

I am kind of disappointed by all the talk of teams that have given up on going to Nationals because of the challenge of qualifying. Maybe I'm just optimistic (or overly competitive) but I wouldn't let the difficult obstacles of needing a good showing at a regional and the challenge of last minute planning stop me from trying to get to Nats. Granted, it will be anything but easy to pull it off, but that does not mean it is not possible. I kinda find going against the odds fun and exciting, because when you do pull it off, it makes it all the more rewarding.

Anyways, I was just wondering what teams have totally given up on going to nats (this may have already been asked) and why they have made that decision. Is there anyone else out there who likes to be the underdog and who is going to put it all on the line and go for broke?

A crazy-reckless optimist,

Eric

I know what you are saying Eric. I have changed teams this year from 535 G-Force to #461 Boiler Invasion (Purdue Team) and I realize that this new team is not as competitive as any of the others. The team last year did not do too good, but that does not change our expectations for the '02 season. We have decided that we are going to work much harder this season and go to 3 regionals to WORK towards the 3 more points that we need to go to Nationals. So we are not going to give up just b/c we now have to try harder, it just makes us that much better if we can make it to nationals.

Our rookie team did pretty badly last year-we simply weren't prepared for the seemingly overwhelming requirements of the robot project.

However, this year we are optimistic about making it to Nationals. We are already light-years ahead of where we were even during the robot build phase last year. We are just going to figure out what we do best and concentrate our efforts on a Regional, Chairman's Award, or Technical Award. It's going to be a challenging and rewarding learning experience no matter what happens.
