Re: Top Bots for 2009?

i'm a little biased in this decision.... but team 79 ripped up the Orlando regional!

there was one other bot i cant think of that was there that was also great

but we could score so well people had to double team us just to stop the madness

How has the team that currently has a 35-0-1 record, averages higher than 80 points per match, won two events, and has scored over 100 points twelve times only been mentioned by number once...

Are we doing this by number of times mentioned like 06? I always thought that was a poor method. See I think one nod is enough for anyone, I would prefer posters try to be original and mention a team no one else has mentioned (and not your own team please). But hey, this isn't my thread

HOT and Winnovation are amazing but 71 will always be the BEAST.

45 will blow you away and they certainly ain't singing the blues when they are together with their IN FIRST brother 234.

56 won 2 regionals and has only lost elim 1 match (due to a penalty), not too shabby.

From what I've seen online, 67 is pretty crazy.

Oh and from what I've seen in person, 1771. It's awesome to watch this thing go:

And that's without the fans on the back that supposedly give it an extra 7 pounds of thrust. They also told us it shoots 5 moon rocks per second.

They were AWESOME at Pittsburgh, and their alliance won.
We were supposed to be a part of that alliance.

Thanks Maggie. 1708 played some awesome defense! I tend to stay away from these threads, but I'm gonna throw some others in here 1218 was great at Pittsburgh, 816 was great at Philly and there are many others that have huge potential when left to play their game...11, 56, 103, 291, 365, 395, 1153, 1507, 1629 & 1923 stand out as offensive threats. I'm sure there are some I missed and I didn't covered any machines I haven't seen in person. Good luck to everyone!

Re: Top Bots for 2009?

1625 and 67 would probably tale my top spots so far this year. It is hard to tell just because the nature of the game makes it a little more unpredictable than previous years.

148 is definitely a top bot there release speed is impressive and I wouldn't be surpised to see them win their second regional this week.

254/968 look good as always. Their dumpers are powerful. 968 may have come up short at San Diego, but they were a top bot there. 254 looked very strong in silicon valley, and I can only expect them to get better.

After watching qualifications I was convinced that 79 was going to win Florida, although they came ever so close to winning and didn't quite pull it off in the end, they are still on my list of top robots.

217 looked good at Midwest, but there performance at MI Cass Tech was definitley more convincing as to why they chould be a top bot this year.

111 looked very strong at Midwest, there run at Boilmaker was cut short, but I still think they are one of the best.

39 Never had an insanely high score at Arizona, but they found a way to win the majority of their matches and I expext them to make a run in Atlanta.

45's performance has been very good this year, they can boast 26 wins in 2 regionals and one title along with a very cool propulsion system.

71 is a beast as usual (Pun intended) and they are definitely in the hunt for the best robot.

As for top shooters, 1114 has been mentioned and looks really good. I would like to add 1717 because they were very close to regional title and had the capability to control the out come of their matches. 40's auto mode is ridiculous and if if a couple small things went a little differentley they could easily have their second straight multi regional title year.

Re: Top Bots for 2009?

I used OPRNet to throw the rankings for all the regionals into a spreadsheet, and sorted by OPR. These numbers are for one competition each; I don't have full-season numbers (yet).
OPR can be interpreted as a team's average contribution to their alliance's score; these numbers only include qualifying matches (afaik).
Top 25 is arbitrary.
Code:
Team	OPR	SAA	PM	RPI	Regional	Result
1	71	63.55	13.69	49.86	0.54	Midwest Loss
2	67	55.25	7.51	47.73	0.61	Lansing, MI	Win
3	188	54.85	20.13	34.71	0.58	Finger Lakes	Win
4	399	53.89	5.26	48.63	0.57	Colorado	Win
5	968	52.85	12.82	40.03	0.61	San Diego	Loss
6	694	51.29	10.4	40.89	0.54	Connecticut	Loss
7	67	50.94	0.62	50.32	0.58	Cass Tech, MI	Win
8	217	49.07	16.26	32.81	0.59	Troy, MI	Win
9	2056	48.89	8.99	39.91	0.59	Greater Toronto	Win
10	1625	48.82	13.99	34.83	0.54	Midwest Win
11	399	48.57	6.64	41.93	0.61	Los Angeles	Loss
12	694	48.45	16.43	32.02	0.52	New York	Loss
13	103	47.67	1.65	46.02	0.59	Florida Loss
14	2877	47.59	13.4	34.18	0.52	Connecticut	Loss
15	121	47.19	8.28	38.91	0.60	Connecticut	Loss
16	2056	45.29	3.27	42.03	0.58	Waterloo	Win
17	67	44.74	11.52	33.22	0.56	Troy, MI	Win
18	2199	44.74	26.5	18.24	0.54	Washington DC	Loss
19	1279	44.29	19.23	25.06	0.56	Philadelphia	Loss
20	1622	44.21	10.39	33.82	0.56	San Diego	Loss
21	188	43.64	23.98	19.66	0.54	Greater Toronto	Loss
22	395	43.35	9.06	34.29	0.5	Philadelphia	Win
23	1625	43.32	14.14	29.18	0.55	Wisconsin	Win
24	1218	43.22	12.76	30.47	0.54	Pittsburgh	Win
25	1114	43.18	11.25	31.93	0.58	Midwest Loss
- 71 stands out beyond the rest, though it's possible their high OPR there is a bit boosted by inconsistencies in their alliance's behavior. Their next appearance is 37.98 OPR, placing 59th on this list
- 67's dominance is supported not just by their top notch OPR appearing three times, but also by their consistently high RPI. They had to play tough teams.
- 67 (#2,7,17), 188 (#3,21), 399 (#4,11), 694 (#6,12), 1625 (#10, 23), 2056 (#9,16) appeared in the top 25 OPR multiple times.
Some slightly off topic statistics:
- 18 different teams appeared in the top 25 OPR.
- After these performances high scoring performances, 12/25 went on to win the regional.
- 13/18 teams will be going to Atlanta (Assuming usfirst.org's championship team list is currently up to date). 103, 694, 968, 1279, 2199 will not be there.

Re: Top Bots for 2009?

For me, the best herder was 2200, it was a giant yellow box with a roller on the front and at the Waterloo Regional, they were nicknamed the Empty Cell Kings. I saw in one game, they got an empty cell in the fueling station in under 20 seconds. They also had a really good autonomous period strategy, go to the centre and spin for a random amount of time. Their thrower was also really good.
