Re: 2009 Long Island Regional
Sadly, it is
We should talk to the committee and see how it can be fixed. It's a FANTASTIC regional with many FANTASTIC teams and it needs to be talked about. |

Either no one submitted or they are doing it tomorrow (my guess).

Re: 2009 Long Island Regional
Not sure really, I'll have to check tomorrow.
Some real good matches today. A few with multiple supercells being scored. We also had one teams robot literally "go up in flames" unfortunately team 263 had a catastrophic failure of, I believe a Victor speed controller and the match had to be stopped so the fire could be extinguished. In 10 years of being involed in FIRST that was the first time I had seen that during a match. Right now the 2009 Buckeye Regional winners team 2010 and team 102 are at the top of the standings. Tomorrow will be an interesting day for sure! |

Re: 2009 Long Island Regional
They are worried about our robot being a fire hazard. After completely rewiring the robot and having many, many people check all connections, we collaborated with the mentors of 358(thank you so much guys) and started ruling everything out.
However it wasn't good enough because there wasn't a definite answer to what it was. So they made us run the bot for around 8 minutes(maybe a little more) and told us that it wasn't safe because our CIM which was running the entire time, and was the one hooked up to the victor that caught on fire, got extremely hot and started to heat the wired close to it and smell. So the victor blew up on the input side, and their blaming the output connections. While i completely agree with making us test and prove the safety of the bot outside, an 8 minute stress test is a little excessive. I've never seen a team have to go through 4 back to back matches without any break. But they do know best, and I would never want to put the safety of anyone at the competition at risk. So its still up in the air on what we're going to do. Tomorrow morning we have to submit a plan to them, change it, test again, if we pass we get back in, if not, good luck at the rest of the competition and Nationals. Also thank you so much to all the teams who came to our aid, the line of teams walking up to us with victors, wire and tools in their hands was defiantly a testimony to gracious professionalism. |

Re: 2009 Long Island Regional
Looks like the eliminations are going to be pretty awesome this year (again)!!! I'm sad I couldn't make it but none the less, I am VERY proud of how far my team has come and I'm cheering for them. Good luck to all teams =D

Re: 2009 Long Island Regional
An unfortunate loss for us and 102 and Sayville! The rookie team that we went up against with Floyd and Port Jeff had a ridiculous human player, he scored probably 50 points a game for them alone! The Port Jeff human player added about 20-25 points as well for them. Good run guys.
Congrats to everyone there, it was a great event. See you in Atlanta! |

You're absolutely right about their human player. He had some amazing accuracy when it came to hitting trailers on the move. We saw many super cells scored during eliminations and they definitely turned the match around for the alliances that scored them. Overall a very good regional competition and a regional that I personally think is getting better and better each and every year. The level of engineering and fabrication of the teams attending is top notch. |

Re: 2009 Long Island Regional
Can't help but notice how prophetic the Sachem Aftershock buttons were.
Glad you guys got back on the field. Thank you for the cool wheel/gyro medallion. We had fun with our alliance partners 514 Miller Place and 28 Pierson. Thank you both for playing with us. My thanks also to the wonderful job by the field reset crew, queuers, referees, scorers, and the cooperation of the drive teams. On Saturday when we were under the gun to get in all 11 matches demanded by the team leaders, they successfully turned the field around on an average of 5 minutes and 30 seconds, with most of the matches right at the 5 minute mark. Finally, my personal thanks to Regional Director Janet Anderson, FTA Bill Edelman, Mikey, and Bharat for making me exercise and for a really special 10th anniversary SBPLI Regional!I hope to see the anniversary video someday, since my head was under the driver stations during most of opening ceremonies... Re: 2009 Long Island Regional
Man, what a fun competition! Congrats to all of the teams that attended. You guys made some creative, effective and overall really impressive robots.
Also a huge thank you to all of the field crew, refs, volunteers, judges and everyone else who made the event run as smooth as it did. Nice job Mark keeping the field up and running the whole time, now stop posting on CD and relax! A special congrats to the winning alliance teams 287, 496 and 2638. You guys were amazing!!!! And of course, congrats to team 353 (one of our awesome alliance partners) for their Chairman's award! Can't wait till next year, see you then! |
