Has any one seen long range scoring?
I am wondering if there is a bot out there that scores long range.
What i classify as a long range bot: 1. scores from 5+ ft 2. Does it as its main method of scoring 3. Has 50+% accuracy |

Re: Has any one seen long range scoring?
Almost, every long range shooter I have seen has been lucky to get shoots in. I am sure some teams will do it well by Atlanta, but they will also need to be deadly at close range to be any good.

Re: Has any one seen long range scoring?
624 in Lone Star made a few fast & accurate +5 foot shots on Friday.
They were blocked by robots and trailers and just shot over everything. |

Re: Has any one seen long range scoring?
Team 1114, the Simbotics at Greater Toronto Regional. They were able to score over a robot after few adjustments to their amazing shooter!! Very impressive.
EDIT : It was NOT their main method of scoring. Last edited by Flyin' Axe : 28-03-2009 at 19:51. |

Re: Has any one seen long range scoring?
A number of bots have done it, such as 1717, 1114, 987, and 1902, in ideal situations. But I have yet to see a team who does it as their primary scoring method.

Re: Has any one seen long range scoring?
1557 has a shooter with a range of 5 feet, but our aiming system isn't effective enough, so most of our scoring is done at close range, a lot of teams have had issues with their cameras this year, so shooting just isnt that practical

Re: Has any one seen long range scoring?
team 40 (i think) posted a video not too long ago of their autonomous mode, which was quite accurate, even on a moving target at somewhat of a distance.

I have seen their auto mode move up against a trailer, being shooting, then shoot one or two off as the trailer moves away, stop shooting, and then move up against the trailer to score again. Team 228 also attempts to score at a range of about one robot length (three feet or so). Their auto mode during qualification matches at CT was to drive forward from the outpost and shoot their starting seven balls over the opposing robot toward their trailer. While I have no hard numbers to back this up, they may have scored a handful to maybe 10 balls in trailers over the course of the event (I believe they were the only ones to score in auto during the regional). |

Personally I have yet to see a robot who primarily does long-range shooting as their first method of scoring. And we all know after 15 feet or so accuracy goes out the window with most human players, so maybe it is a little early to be expecting the same thing from robots (maybe at Atlanta?). |

Re: Has any one seen long range scoring?
Team 2415 can hit from up to 10-12 feet but has never done so in a match. In the amount of time that the ball is in the air, a robot can move out of the way enough to cause an errant shot... if they arent pinned. I know 1771 can prolly get that range and same with 832.
The Georgia shooters i guess you can call them... |

Re: Has any one seen long range scoring?
We've done it with manual control. Two balls (out of five) maybe, over a robot in a pushing/pinning situation.

Re: Has any one seen long range scoring?
During Coneticut I shot several balls over the front of robots into trailers if that classifies

Re: Has any one seen long range scoring?
i saw 228 shoot over a bot that was face to face with it a couple times at hartford but it was inaccurate and once i even saw them accidentally score on the trailer of their partner.

Re: Has any one seen long range scoring?
our bot (#706) loved to hover around 5 ft from opposing trailers, thats where we scored most of our points. as for shots over 8 ft and above we scored a couple towards the end of matches but only as a hail mary type deal
