More than one regional?

Hello,

I had a question about attending more than one regional.. Do you have to pay for shipping in between the events? Or is that included in the $4000 cost?

Thanks,
Keehun

Re: More than one regional?

We've been lucky the past few years, our first regional was relatively close, so we delivered our crate to the drayage company on ship day, and saved the first free shipping for use between regionals. This year not so lucky...we had to pay for shipping from regional 1 to regional 2.

Re: More than one regional?

For a crate that will fit under FedEx donation limit, how much is it usually to ship?

And.. man, why can't FIRST cover stuff like this? $10,000 seems so much for 2 events.. (I do realize the cost of setting up a regional and running it... but looking at FIRST financial statements, it looks like they're sitting fat)...

oh well not here to complain

Thanks,
Keehun

Re: More than one regional?

We were charged $500-600 by SES to ship from one event to another.

Re: More than one regional?

Shepard charged us $480 for a 370 lb packed crate.
The sad part was it was only traveling 40 miles to SBPLI drayage in Hauppauge, our home town...

Re: More than one regional?

You get two free shipments from FedEx (three if you go to Championship). If you go to two regionals, you will need to pay for one shipment, or deliver the crate on ship date to the drayage facility for your initial event.

This year, Team 980 competed in the Los Angeles Regional, Las Vegas Regional and came off the invite list late for Championship. Team 980 rented a truck with a commercial loading dock (48-inch high) bed from Penske for about $65 to deliver our crate to the local drayage facility. The remainder of our shipments were covered by the FedEx donations.

If it weren't for a minor accident with the truck, this would have been a very cost-effective way to handle our shipping this year.

When I've delivered the crate to the drayage facility, they've unloaded it from my pickup with a forklift with no problem....although they're not supposed to, since it's not 48" high. Seems you could build a platform to raise the bed of a pickup to 48" height for less than $65 of building materials, though! (and yeah, I know, most folks don't own several pickups)
