Motor Couplings
Hello everyone I have a couple questions based off of the topic title.
1)Could i please have some information on Motor Couplings? 2) I would like to know from teams if they have used them before on their robots and how did they work out for them? Thank you, p.s( i hope i posted this in the right place) |

Re: Motor Couplings
Welcome to CD, teams do use couplers and they work really well.
We used them on our bots in the past, were you looking for a specific motor coupler? -RC |

Re: Motor Couplings
The information will likely be dependent on what motor you are looking to couple and what size shaft you are looking to couple it to.
One general thing to keep in mind with using a shaft coupler on a motor shaft is that many motors are not designed to withstand substantial side load so you must be careful with how you support the shaft if you are using a non-flexible coupling and your application may side load the motor. As RC mentioned, many teams have used shaft couplers before. For some of the kit motors it may be helpful to adapt them to a standard size if you can't find the coupler you need to connect your motor to your desired shaft. Andymark makes adapters to turn both a CIM shaft and Globe shaft into a standard 1/2 keyed shaft. Last edited by Vikesrock : 12-19-2009 at 12:33 AM. |

Re: Motor Couplings
Just be sure to size them properly for the power/application, and choose the insert that is rated for the most torque (like Hytrel, instead of Buna-N).
