.stp files

All the CAD files available for the KOP are .stp files. I have no idea how to open said files (preferably with autocad?)

Assistance is required.
Thanks in advance.

Re: .stp files

All 3D Inventor KOP parts available on www.autodesk.com/first are .ipt and .iam files for parts and assemblies native to Inventor. None of them are .stp files that I can see. Make sure you are a registered user on the FIRSTBASE site and you will have access to the files.

It gets a bit confusing because there are over 300 different download options and you really only need to down load the packages noted with the prefix "ALL".

Are you saying you would prefer to open KOP parts in AutoCAD? Since AutoCAD is a 2D program, I suggest sticking with Inventor.

Inventor and AutoCAD are available for you to download once you are a registered user on FIRSTBASE

Agreed. AutoCad is for 2D sketching, but does not really have the ease of workflow for 3D modeling that Inventor provides.

From my knowledge though, Im pretty sure both Inventor and AutoCAD will open .stp files. You need to change the file type in the "Open" window to STEP or .stp. My advice is that once you open the file, save it as a format your comfortable with.

Re: .stp files

As noted in the thread, the parts are supplied in IPT or IAM format for use with Autodesk Inventor. Download the KOP files by setting the filters to 2010 and ALL. Then download each group.

Re: .stp files

You can go to www.3dcontentcentral.com and download the parts in .dwg file format (2D). I have a few students designing the parts from the drawings and step files from Andy Mark -they should all be up in a few days. Some are there now. Marie
