Powering Solenoids

Do we have to use the Solenoid break off board if we use 12 v festos? or can we use spike relays plugged into digital side car?

if we use the solenoid break out board do we need spike relays still?

Re: Powering Solenoids

You do not have to use the Solenoid breakout board to control pneumatic valves. You may use spikes instead. The pneumatic breakout board will control the valve directly, no need for a spike.

This is my interpretation; which does not count at all at a competition; you would be well-advised to verify this with the rules.

I do not know if you are required to use the Solenoid Breakout board. However, for us, we used the Solenoid Breakout board to power the FESTO solenoid (connected to the pneumatic cylinder). We used the spike relays to control the compressor.

Hope this helps,
