Was its original purpose to lift or to kick?

I'm assuming kicking, b/c the dog-gear could be used to vary the range.

We too recognized that given the well-proven ultimate strength of a craftsman ratchet, and the robust design of the ratcheting mechanism, that it was a far better anti-backdrive mechanism than we could machine ourselves.

A robot .

It's a gearbox design to take the power from one side of the drive train, and power the spool when the dog gear is engaged. When the dog gear is not engage, it just sits in idle mode doing nothing.

Unfortunately, we didn't have time to complete the hanging mechanism before ship, and we don't have time to complete it by San Diego. So the gearbox is just going to sit in idle mode through out SD.

We are hopping to get the rest of hanging mechanism figured out by Silicon Valley, though. The entire hanging mechanism should take no more than 8-9 lbs, including the gearbox shown above.

You stole my team's winch 6 pound idler ideas . My team is using a CIM geared through an AM Planetary and Toughbox Nano, with AM Hubs serving as a makeshift winch weight addition. You even use the same inexpensive ratchet.
