Confused Alumni watching Webcast

Ok so as I'm watching the webcasts to watch this year's game it seems to be a very defensive game. When I go and look at the standings none of the robots that I viewed as elite are on top of the standings. After the reading the forum posts this makes sense now. Instead of debating the morality of the game and whether it is practical to play qualification matches in a different context than elimantion matches that can be discussed on a different thread.

Instead I would like to pose a different solution to the many teams that want to play defense.

Have your scorer score goals for your opponent and score your opponents ball for them. That gives you 4 points. If both teams can do this their qualification match points will go up drastically while still there can be defense played.

Any other thoughts about this?

Re: Confused Alumni watching Webcast

here are my thought on that:

* I would agree that that is a very good way to boost your seeding points, and put yourself at the top

* I do not like the way that the scoring system is making people think. Yes it is strategy, but is it really a strategy that was supposed to arise from such a system?

* My team sort of ignored the new system and had this mindset: (at least me and a few others did) score huge ammounts of points on your own alliance, play defense on the opposing alliance, and show everyone how awesome you are. Ignore all the seeding points, and leave it to the alliance picking and hope that someone was paying attention to you. then use your awesomeness and power that you derrive from your robot, and not strategetic scoring to blow away the strategetic scorers that weeded their way to the top of the list.

that is kinda just what I was thinking about today as we were making our way through the finals. Our first 2 quarter finals matches were 5 to 1, and 8 to 6...

it was tough though, we got the boot in the semis...
my hypothesis was not foolproof, it was pretty much flawed in every way... but the new scoring system definitely put some new faces up in the top 8...
