Transition between Quals and Elims
When during the qualification matches will you begin to consider what alliance(s) would be beneficial to your elimination match chances?
I will tune back in after reading about others' opinions, to offer my own. No way to put them into a sealed envelope for future revelation, is there? ![]() |

Re: Transition between Quals and Elims
Near the end of Friday the Scouting/Strategy people begin to look at whom they believe to be the best bots on the field. That night, or the next morning we meet and have a round table type discussion on the teams and everyone involved weighs in. From there we set up a list (or a couple of lists based on certain aspects) and pay special attention to those teams, to see any improvements/shortcomings. From there we look again at the list and make any last minute changes before alliance selections.

Re: Transition between Quals and Elims
2022 begins scouting on Thursday, but we understand that many good teams are unable to run on Thursday, so we watch for improvement. On Friday night we have a team meeting and form our list of the top 20-24 teams. All the robots are labeled with their strengths and weaknesses so when it comes to alliance selection we are able to either pick a strong alliance or assist in picking a strong alliance depending on out position.

Re: Transition between Quals and Elims
Like others, we scout the entire event (Thurs-Sat), and do our best to watch every robot every match to record data in our Labview database. On Friday night we meet after the event for generally at least 3 hours to "rank" teams Yes/Maybe/No, and then rank within those categories and compare the whole list, making sure we have at least 30 robots on our list.
Saturday we sit with the list in excel (in addition to scouting), and watch every single match for our yes/maybe robots to see if they got better/worse and adjust the rankings accordingly. About 10 matches prior to selections we finalize our list and print it in our pits (make any adjustments by hand after that). We do this regardless of where we are ranked. |
