HiTechnic Magnetic Compass Invalid Compass Manufacturer

Has anyone else gotten the NXT HiTechnic Magnetic Compass to work? I plugged it in to the side car in the I2C jack, but when I tried to create the HiTechnicCompass object the console would not complete the deploy process because of the following error, "Invalid Compass Manufacturer."

It would be nice to know whether the HiTechnicCompass class really works or not. I haven't tried the compass with the NXT recently, so I will try that again just to see whether it's fried or not. Also, we did get the FRC gyro to work and we will probably just go with that.

In the mean time, if anyone has experience with the compass, please let me know.
