Rookie Team Performance

As a rookie team attending the Minnesota North Star Regional, we didn't have high hopes. Our robot looked like it came from a junkyard. Our robot's name is the Aluminum Falcon, team 3292. Just like the Millenium Falcon, it looked like a piece of junk, but performed greatly. Our robot had a simple kicker and could go over the bump and was very fast and menuverable. We averaged 4 goals a match and had a high of 6. Our team ended up seeding 11th and we ended up as 8th alliance captain in the finals due to a 1 and 2 alliance, etc. As rookies, we were just happy to be there, let alone compete in the quarter-finals. We ended up being beaten in the first round by the 1 seed. If there are any other rookie teams who would like to share their stories, please post here so we can see how each other did and share our FIRST experience.

Re: Rookie Team Performance

My team(3136) had a somewhat similar experience. We went not really expecting to do that well. Our robot was simple, it could go over the bump and under the tunnel but we couldn't climb. Our kicker couldn't kick that far and hadn't even been in the same room as our robot before the day of the competition, but our robot worked. We were able to score on average about 3-6 goals a game acting as a striker and in the end we were ranked 3rd overall. We ended out losing in the quarterfinals against the sixth seeded alliance, but we definitely impressed some people. It was pretty cool to have some teams with numbers in the triple digits coming over to our pit and asking if we had thought about who we're picking for alliances. A couple of teams had even mistaken us as a second year team.

Thinks to remember: 1)Ethernet cable goes in cRio port #1 2)Cloth goes all the way around bumpers 3) Don't let Ed use the good miter box, because he will make it the bad miter box 4) Don't let Joseph use the hand drill 5) Don't let Jesse play soccer inside 6) Ed is the campion 7) We don't go full speed over the bump 8) I need to grow a beard so I can stroke it thoughtfully.

Re: Rookie Team Performance

You might not have noticed but the rookies this year are often as good or better than the veterans

our winning alliances this season both had 3000 series partners who were invaluable players for us. It is great to see

now let's all help them to make sure they stick around
