Hosting FLL Summer Camp

Hey all,
Last year Team 33, the Killer Bees, hosted a summer camp for 4th-8th graders who were signed up to be on a Lego League team in the fall. This was our first year ever doing a camp, and we have decided to run one again this coming summer. We are asking any and all teams who have run a Lego League camp before for advice. Our basic structure: We split the kids into groups and led them around different stations for programming, building, and teamwork lessons. At different points during the days, we gave presentations on how to do research, gracious professionalism, and showed them what a research skit would look like. We found a program out there that we think takes you through running the camp(we've never seen it in person- just read about it) and were wondering if other teams use such programs and if they are worth getting.
Thanks!

Re: Hosting FLL Summer Camp

We're going to try our first FLL camp this year, using the FIRST Official Camp Guide. We'll let you know how it goes!

Re: Hosting FLL Summer Camp

for the last couple of years, Fox Valley Robotics has hosted a summer camp for kids for 1st through 4th grade. it was a ton of fun, and it got a lot of kids interested in robotics. Ours was 3 days long, and for about 3 hours a day. The kids learned about the FLL robots and how to build/program them, and we did a few fun science experiments. This year we are hosting 4 summer camps for that age group. For any teams thinking about hosting something like that, i would strongly recommend it, not only is it a great fundraiser, but it's fun too!

If you want a good idea: last year we mixed up corn starch and water, and let the kids "walk on water" (when you run across the mixture, it compresses so that you don't sink) it was a little messy, so if you decide to try it, do it outside, but the kids loved it.
