i plugged it into the modem because i tried to connect wirelessly into the router, but it doesnt work. So i connected the router into the modem, and the laptop into the router.

i think what he's trying to say is that he's using an LAN hub in between the classmate and the router because he couldn't access the wireless network

Re: Linksys Router (WRT610N V1) Connection Problem

Chelsea,
If you follow each step (don't skip one) in the links you should be able to get some connection. Do not rule out the possibility that the router has failed. Although this is one of the newer devices, many manufacturers have been suffering with cheaply made capacitors from overseas. I had a different model Linksys die that was a little more than a year old. Bad caps in the power supply were causing all kinds of problems. If you are still having problems, try contacting the computer staff person for your school and see if they can walk you through it. If you can't do that, perhaps a team in your area might be interested in coming over to help you.

Here's what things should look like:

[CLASSMATE]===[ROUTER] o))/((o [WGA]===[cRIO]

You're saying he's talking about adding a hub in the middle of the wired connection between the classmate and the router?

[CLASSMATE]===[HUB]===[ROUTER] o))/((o [WGA]===[cRIO]

That doesn't make sense either. Your words seem clear and unambiguous to me, but I don't have a lot of confidence that they mean what you want them to.
