Has anyone check out the lyrics to Little Eva's song "The Locomotion"?
Some of the lyrics seem like instructions on how the game is played. Little Eva The Loco-Motion Lyrics: Everybody's doing a brand-new dance, now. (Come on baby, do The Loco-motion.) I know you'll get to like it, If you give it a chance, now. (Come on baby, do The Loco-motion.) My little baby sister can do it with ease. It's easier than learnin' your A-B-C's. So, come on, come on, do The Loco-motion with me. [Clapping.] You gotta swing your hips, now. Come on, baby, jump up, jump back. Well, now, I think you've got the knack. Wo, wo. Now that you can do it, let's make a chain, now. (Come on baby, do The Loco-motion.) A chug-a, chug-a motion like a railroad train, now. (Come on baby, do The Loco-motion.) Do it nice and easy, now, don't lose control. A little bit of rhythm and a lot of soul. Come on, come on, do The Loco-motion with me. [Instrumental break with clapping.] (Yay, yay, yay, yeah.) Move around the floor in a Loco-motion. (Come on baby, do The Loco-motion.) Do it holding hands if you get the notion. (Come on baby, do The Loco-motion.) There's never been a dance that's so easy to do. It even makes you happy when you're feeling blue. So come on, come on, do The Loco-motion with me. [ Find more Lyrics on http://mp3lyrics.org/pwfv ] [Backup singers repeat, "Come on, do The Loco-Motion," over the following lines ![]() You gotta swing your hips, now. That's right. You're doin' fine. Come on baby. Mmm-mmm-mmm. [Fade.] Jump up, Jump back. You're lookin' good. Mmm-mmm-mmm. Jump up, Jump back. Mmmmm, yay, yay, yay, yeah... |

If that was the case (which would be pretty cool if it was). That could easily tie into the titles of several of Bill's Blog Posts.

Re: 2011 Game Hint #1
I like the idea of optional legs somebody mentioned earlier - it would go along with the "locomotion" theme but would not be restrictive to new teams.
This is also not a huge stretch from the clue (if we assume that "locomotion" is the intended clue). I also read something here about a bonus pack to the KOP - could this contain a platform or the "muscles" or something to make a walking robot? I don't know if the lists are published or if they occasionally contain bonus items... |

I could almost imagine a game where each team consisted of legged and non-legged robots each with specific tasks, but that is COMPLETE speculation. |

Re: 2011 Game Hint #1
Maybe locomotion in terms of other modes of transportation, besides legs. For example, maybe something like treads will be encouraged for the next game.

Just going to reference something Dave said before.....
"I certainly know my ears may never recover..." Ears get stocked up when in the water. Another indication of water game. |

Re: 2011 Game Hint #1
So here is what we've got after a full day of brainstorming.
To start, the obvious. In 1962 Loco-Motion was released. So the game involves track, or trains. The concept of E.V.A. may or may not be a factor. Also, something in the game is going to be mirrored, because the image FIRST used is flipped. Now for our takes on this. Maybe there is a multi-level playing field. Which includes stationary robots with moving arms, and a moving goal on the upper level track. Robots must place game piece in the moving goal on the track. Or, maybe connecting to your alliance for part of the game. Your alliance picks up pieces together. Or, maybe to go with the mirror theory, reversing goals randomly throughout the game, using alternating red and blue LED lights. (Note: LED lights were invented in 1962...)This would result in a game of high scoring. Or, also with the mirror theory, maybe the drivers are divided from the playing field by one way mirrors, so they can see the field, but cannot be seen. Also, the human players would somehow correspond. Or, to explain the column, and Greek background of Eva's middle name, maybe there is a multi-level playing field in which the robots can hook on to a monorail type system held up by columns. And lastly, think about where a lot of our game equipment comes from. Walmart. Yes, Walmart taking over FIRST. See, Walmart first opened in 1962 as well. Maybe the game has to do with a 3 part alliance as usual. One robot picks up game pieces, placing them on the next robot to travel on a track, to the third robot that places them on a shelf. |
