Re: How long does the mini bot have to stay at the top of the pole??

The minibot does not need to stay at the top of the tower. Rather, all you must do is trigger the top plate (registered with an impact of 2-4 Newtons of Force).

2.2.5 The TOWERS

The TARGET is attached to the top of the POST. The TARGET is the “finish line” that indicates the MINIBOT has reached the top of the POST. The TARGET consists of a pair of 12-inch diameter polycarbonate disks, spaced approximately 2 inches apart. The bottom of the lower disk (i.e. the portion of the TARGET contacted by the climbing MINIBOT) is approximately 122 inches above the floor. As the MINIBOT climbs the POST and contacts the lower disk of the TARGET, the disk translates upwards approximately 1/4 inch as the sensors internal to the TARGET register the contact. A minimum contact force of approximately 2-4 Newtons, depending on contact location, is required to ensure the contact sensors in the TARGET trip reliably. The contact sensors and associated electronics are located between the upper and lower disks of the TARGET.
-----------------------------------

I am sorry if this isn't enough, as it is simply an interpretation. However, I take this to mean that since you must "trip" the target reliably, and move it up 1/4", as long as you are able to do as such, your finish light should then turn on.

That was FIRST team 624's interpretation, as well.

OK, thanks for your interpretation. I hope you're coming to the NJ Regional this year so you can help me convince the judges?

Re: How long does the mini bot have to stay at the top of the pole??

In another thread, Andy A. (IIRC, that's who it was) said he'd asked a couple GDC members at the Manchester Kickoff, and that's what they'd said.

Just be really nice if they'd make it official.

Guilty as charged.

I to am waiting for an official word, although I'm about 90% confident in the responses I got at Manchester. GDC members design the game but this is really a question about the field management software. Theres still plenty of room for this to go the other way.
