Driverstation

I know this may seem like a dumb question, but when you are driving your robot at the competition, do you have to be logged in as the driver account? or can you stay in the developer and just minimize the d.s. software to see you camera in the internet?

Re: Driverstation

At competition I believe you are required to use driver mode so you can't do anything else.

While testing at the metal shop I just use developer mode.

Re: Driverstation

Now I am not sure about that this year. The rules state that you can use other electronics. So I don't think it is necessary. But it still has to have a driverstation

The Driver Station software provided on the FRC website (www.usfirst.org/frc/kitofparts) is
the only tool permitted to collate driver/operator inputs and communicate them to the
ROBOT. The Driver Station software must be revision 01.05.11.00 or newer.

Teams are permitted use a portable computing device of their choice (laptop
computer, PDAs, etc.) to host the Driver Station software while participating in
competition MATCHES.

Re: Driverstation

I can't find it in the manual anywhere, but I've been told that the Field Management System checks with the Driver Station application to make sure the Driver account is logged in.

Re: Driverstation

Past years, the FMS has checked with the computer to make sure it is the driver account. This is a safety check on behalf of the field, so I imagine that it will happen again this year.

Re: Driverstation

Yes you must be in on the Driver Account!

My Team is helping out with the FMS at a pre-season this year, and programmers have been doing some prep-work when nothing from the shop has come our way. So as we were playing around with FMS 2009 Lite to get ready, one of the things we wanted to test was the ability to use it with non-FIRST laptops.

We couldn't get it to work on anything but the classmate initially, but as we went, we found out that as long as the name of the account your logged into on any computer is Driver and it is set up as an administrator, the driver station will connect to the (2009-2010) FMS. It will also immediately link the two up with out the bars up top like they do on the driver account in the classmate.

So in a nutshell, at least until we hear more about the 2011 FMS, I would be logged into the driver account to be safe.

A side note:

To any teams attending pre-seasons using a non FIRST-computer, make sure you have an account named driver on the computer of choice! This would be good to prepare in case the 2011 edition is like this, or if we don't see the 2011 in Delta or Lite form before regionals.

Re: Driverstation

So technically i could just change the developer name to driver? Since this is the first year that we are using a camera, i can only get it to work when its plugged into the d-link box and in a web page on the computer, so i only have the bottom portion of the d.s software up, not the top part.

Re: Driverstation

My question for you is then, what is wrong with using the camera in the Driver's Station?

Also what you say you want to do won't work, because when your logged into a account named driver, the Driverstation and Dashboard will lock together, without the black bars, and a resolution set up for FRC classmates. If you were attempting this on a full sized laptop, you could get away with it, but on an FRC classmate, it would block the whole screen.

So this brings me back to my original question of What is wrong with using the camera in the Dash? I'm sure whatever your problem is, we can help you fix it, while still keeping it all in the FRC Driverstation Software.

Re: Driverstation

Wait? Your Dashboard isn't loading? Is that correct. Or is it a problem with the camera?
