Continuously Rotating Servo?

Our team prototyped a roller gripper using vex parts and it worked surprisingly well. I was astounded at how much torque those motors can put out.

Since we cant use the motors in our final bot I was wondering if it would be possible to modify a servo to spin continuously and still have it be legal under the rules.

I'm not sure if it would technically be a servo anymore if we did this.

If it is illegal, are there any good alternatives? We are looking for something lightweight and compact.

You would have to disconnect the potentiometer. However, I'm not sure that modifying a COTS servo would be legal. Maybe try out a winch servo for RC sailboats. They will rotate up to 8 revolutions at a time.

There is a Tetrix piece of equipment called a continuous rotation servo.

I believe this is the same a a Vex motor module.

I'm guessing the Tetrix name qualifies it as a legal piece of equipment.

It doesn't necessarily.

Get a continuous rotation servo, as long as it's under 4W. I believe Hitec sells one or more.
