Re: d-link bridge

Are you trying to use the radio as an access point or as a bridge?

Re: d-link bridge

Did you look at the Classmate wireless settings to see if the IP address is correct?

I'm curious what part of How to configure your radio, Rev A made you set it to 5ghz. I'm sure FIRST would appreciate the feedback on how to make the document more clear, because they intend you to set it to 2.4ghz for team us as an access point.

Re: d-link bridge

Sounds normal.

When you change the DLink IP address, your PC will no longer be able to communicate with it. So the Saving settings page will never return, because it's trying to load the old IP address that doesn't exist anymore.

In addition, they wouldn't be able to communicate even at the new DLink IP address, because suddenly your PC and the DLink are on two different incompatible networks.

After you click save settings that change the DLink IP address you need to go change your PC IP address to 10.xx.yy.5 again.
Then browse to the DLink's new IP address at 10.xx.yy.1

The radio configuration manual said something about having the IP address of the programming computer above 10; is that not needed?

Is it necessary to go back there to change things? Or is it just in case you want to mess around with stuff.

You just have to pick an IP that is not used by another device. A high number practically guarentees there will be no IP conflicts since cRIO uses .2, DriverStation default to .5 etc.

What he said.
Anything .6 and above is free and clear.

No, you're right. You'd only go back there to make sure you can see it at the new address. It gives you a warm and fuzzy feeling.

There is often some fiddling with straightening out the IP addresses on the Classmate to switch the Driver Station application between the wireless and wired networks. You have to make sure the wired network adaptor IP address is different than the wireless IP address. Only one of them can be .5
And you have to make sure the Driver Station app. doesn't keep trying to use the old one.

It's kind of hard to follow the exact steps taken through this thread, but I think after you change the DLINK and COMPUTER IP addressses, you do need to switch the DLINK into AP mode, browse to the DLINK address and change the frequency of the radio to 2.4GHz.

I just noticed that this weekend.
I wonder how it decides to do this?
Maybe if .5 is already taken? Have to experiment if Greg McKaskle doesn't tell us.

That could cause unusual problems for teams using laptops as competition Driver Stations.
Something to watch out for on practice day.
