Solenoid Valves from previous years

Can we use the 12V solenoid valves from previous years? They would need to be run from the relay outputs on the DIO sidecar. Is a spike required, or can we just use 2 relay channels?

If the part meets all rules, then yes. You look it up.

As far as how to control them, my advice would be to use the pneumatic module & breakout supplied.

If you use a Relay output, be advised it can supply a max of 7.5 mA. This won't come close to driving a pneumatic solenoid valve, so a spike would be necessary.

yes, they are allowed. either wire them to spikes or put a 2nd pnuematics bumper into your crio (slot 7) and remember to change those solenoids in your code. wire that one for 12 volts and your slot 8 to 24v (if you are using a festo valve)

If we want to use only pneumatic solenoids from a previous year's kit (seems simpler than mixing the one 24v solenoid that we have with one 12v from before) can I just wire the one solenoid breakout at 12v? Or am I required to have a solenoid breakout wired at 24v?

Do I power the solenoid breakout from one of the normal 12v breaker outputs along the side of the PD?

Are we going to be required to show documentation on the older solenoids for the inspection?

The valves we are thinking of using are actually SMC valves from the 2007 kit. I found a data sheet here: http://www.team358.org/files/pneumatic/
but I am having a tough time reading it.

Anyone have a sense of whether these would be legal? If not we will have to order another of the new valves and hope it gets here by next week...

I believe most 3000 series valves flow less than .30cv so they should be legal. You can get the real data sheet from SMC's website.

I found the correct sheet.

It looks like it is possible to have a Cv of .33 with a certain configuration (3-position, Exhaust Center) but I believe that the valve we have (SY3240) indicates 2-position.

Under Port Diameter it says: Rc(PT)1/8. Is that the same as 1/8" NPT?

Also it looks like their maximum pressure is 0.7 MPa (101 psi) so we will have to install an additional pressure relief valve set to that pressure.
