Classmate wireless

We're having some trouble getting our classmate/driver station connected to the robot wirelessly. We've got the robot radio set up in AP (access point) mode so we can connect to it from the classmate without having to use a wireless router in between.

When we search for the network (SSID 2177) from any of our Mac's or Windows XP boxes, we can see the network, join it easily enough, and ping the radio without a problem. However, the classmate can't see the network. We search for local networks, and everything shows up... except for 2177. Our local wireless network, networks from other tenants in our building all show up just fine, and we can join them without a problem, access the internet, whatever. But we can't connect to the 2177 network to control the robot - it doesn't even show up on the list.

Any ideas? None of us have any real experience with Vista or Windows 7... I figure it probably has something to do with that, since XP and OSX work just fine...

Re: Classmate wireless

Check to see if your classmate is G speed 802.11 and the other laptops are N. G wifi uses 2.4 GHz, and N can use either 2.4 or 5 or both.

If you configure the AP to only do N at 5, laptops without N will probably not see it.

Re: Classmate wireless

Make sure your TCIP of your classmate is set to 10.xx.yy.(any number between 10 and 25)

you can do the above by going into control panel: network connections: right click your wireless connection: properties: TCIP, set your ip address with the above instructions, and then set your subnet mask to 255.0.0.0 and leave the default ip blank.

click ok, then try connecting. I had the same problem, and after I did the above; it worked.

and if the wireless connection doesn't even pop up, then try resetting the bridge and configuring it again with the USFIRST instructions.
