Re: sensors

Almost all sensors are viable unless they break a rule. As usual, RTM!!!!

Please clarify by what you mean, I'm not sure that I understand the question you are asking.

Re: sensors

Jake Isn't asking a question, he is making a statement. Read the manual (RTM). The rules are explicitly stated for disallowing and what is left is what is allowed.

Since I don't like to be the guy that just says "figure it out for your self", I'll give some advice instead.

1. Make sure that when you ask a question, ask the question that you want answered. the old adage "garbage in, garbage out" is especially applicable in the way you stated your question.

Try the question instead: "I would like to put a sensor on our robot that can see the light from a flashlight pointed at the ground and follow where I am pointing it. The specs for such a sensor are found at acme.com as part number 12345. I have read the manual, but can't find any explicit rules against this. Since this is not a laser based system and doesn't violate <Rxyz>, I think it would be legal. Does anyone see a reason I couldn't use this?"

2. Make sure you or at least your team mates carefully read the rules. If you need help, post a few pictures or ideas here on CD. Everyone here wants to make sure that everyone ships a compliant robot. The less delays at competition, the more fun it is for everyone

Re: sensors

Yes, Sorry about the truncated answer, I had to run off and do something. There are several items in the rules that explicitly state what kind of sensors (or more precisely what they use) that are allowed.

For example, exposed lasers (per <R02>).

I would recommend having someone on the team specifically designated to keep track of rules and updates. I am that position on our team.

Again, sorry for the short (and to be brutally honest, trolly) answer. But, as per Chief Tradition,

Next year's game is a water game and keep reading the manual.
