Post <G14> Question?

I was reading through the rule book today when an interesting rule caught my attention.

<G14> "Any control devices worn or held by the drivers must be disconnected from the operator console, and not connected until after the autonomous period."

We're using a 360 controller for this year's game, and if this rule means we have to plug in the controller after autonomous is finished, this spells trouble for us. Our robot won't recognize the controller unless the bot is rebooted after connecting it.

If this rule means something else, please explain. If i'm on the money with this, then does somebody know how to make it to where the robot doesn't need to be reset in order to recognize the controller?

I believe the rule is refering to a controller that is being held or worn DURING automous, and in that case would need to be disconnected. If your controller is resting on your DS or on the DS shelf during autonomous, it is like any other component of the DS and can be connected.

Re: <G14> Question?

This only applies to devices that MUST be worn or held by the operator during autonomous. If you can simply set the controller down on your driver station during autonomous, then you'll be fine.

The idea here is that operators shouldn't be able to interact with the driver station during autonomous. So controllers can either stay connected, but be completely untouched during autonomous, or stay in contact with an operator, but remain disconnected during autonomous.

This is probably why the Kinect was ruled against as a controller, since it could allow an operator to interact with the driver station during autonomous without touching it.

Thank you for the speedy replies. You've saved me and the driver a lot of headache and confusion.
