Thank You GVSU!

On behalf of COMETS Robotics, I would like to publicly thank everyone who was involved with the West Michigan District event. The FTA (Corey) was fantastic, patient, and always looking to help our team - we couldn't done it without you. The volunteers were great and cheerful, and the refs/judges deserve a special thanks.

We also would like to thank teams 1918 and 27 for being fantastic alliance partners - it was a blast competing with you guys. 1918 you guys are definitely the real deal - gracious professionals both on and off the field.

Needless to say team 67, 107, and 2054 were outstanding opponents in the finals and definitely gave us a run for our money! You guys were fantastic.

So big thanks to everyone at GVSU! Looking forward to competing with you all later this year!

Re: Thank You GVSU!

I can only imagine how excited the rest of Team RUSH is, but I know I must've received some funny looks from people at the Boilermaker Regional for how ecstatic I appeared (read: how much jumping up and down I was doing) after calling my mom for an update, which was coincidentally right after the second finals match score was announced.

Congratulations to 1918, 27, and 3357 on your win, and to the finalists as well. I knew that there would be some hard fought matches when I heard we were up against 2054, 67, and 107, and based on the rapid-fire text updates I was receiving, I was right.

I really wish I had been able to attend, but unfortunately I wasn't. Good luck to everyone in your future competitions, and hopefully I'll see you all at MSC!

See you all at MSC!

Re: Thank You GVSU!

Thank you GVSU for the wonderful venue! Thank you to all the volunteers, FTA, Refs, and judges for working hard all weekend to make this a great event.

Congratulations to 1918, 27, and 3357 you guys formed an incredible alliance. We knew we would have to execute flawlessly to defeat you. Unfortunately we did not and you guys we too way to strong for us to overcome our issues.

I have a lot of respect for 1918 and 27, both teams experienced some troubles early Saturday morning, but in each instance they quickly changed strategies and kept fighting to either win the match or make it as close as possible. Then worked to correct those issues by the afternoon to perform at an incredibly high level in the eliminations.

To 3375; we were hoping that you would make it all the way back to us. Not sure how you made it all the way back to the #2 seed. We wanted you guys to play your same role for us instead of against us. Credit to the scouts on 1918 and 27.

To 2054; you guys were nearly perfect all weekend long. From autonomous, to tube scoring, to minibots you were as consistently awesome. It was great getting a chance to work with you guys.

To 107; it was great seeing and working with you again. You guys were willing to do whatever we needed. We picked you guys for autonomous scoring and you guys worked and worked all elims to get the "twitch" at the start out. We finally got it that last match, when we really needed it! Thank you for always working with us!

Between 1918, 2054, 3357, and a hand full of other veteran and strong rookie teams on the West side....they are going to start challenging the East side for State dominance. Future state championships are going to be really exciting.

Congratulations to Fighting Pi (1718) on the District Chairmans award. You guys are a great team and have quickly improving robot also.

To my HOT teammates; Our #1 goal was to collect as many points as we could to give us the best chance at qualifying for the State Championship. I think (hope) we accomplished that goal. All the hard work and dedication over the past few weeks paid off. Our performance showed exactly how dedicated we are to being the best!

On a side note, the HOT team is 0-5 (2004-07, 2011) at West Michigan regionals / districts.

Additionally it seems Team RUSH is having some type of strange effect on our robot performance. In matches with (2) / against (5) them this season we have not moved three times, broke a lift pulley, run into a partner trying to deploy our minibot, have both partners lose control of their robots, and finally drive over a deflated Uber-tube and get it caught in the drive train disabling our robot!

We might need an exorcism... or I need to find my lucky shoes out of the landfill.

Thanks Adam. This was a tough competition to come to as our first event; especially knowing that 67 and 27 would be looking to redeem themselves after Kettering - it was no surprise to see you both in the finals. I was utterly amazed to see you deploy a minibot, drive and pick up a tube, and hang it all in the last 10 seconds - and you did it more than once! Amazing.

Congratulations to 1918, 27, and 3357 on the win.

Also congratulations to 27 on your Engineering Inspiration Award - You definitely derserve it.

Thanks to 2767 for picking us; you were great to work with. Also thanks to 3570; you were awesome - I was glad to see you still available when our 2nd pick rolled around.

Lastly; to 3234, 2000, and 904 - thanks for a couple good battles. I hated to see it end the way it did, but you all handled it with gracious professionalism which is what FIRST is all about.

Re: Thank You GVSU!

I would also like to extend my thanks to everyone that had a hand in making the West Michigan District possible including GVSU, the planning committee, everyone who helped set up and tear down the field, the judges, the referees, the inspectors, field staff, the volunteers, 2771 for the webcast, and anybody else I forgot to mention. This has always been a great venue.

Thanks to 27 and 3357. It was a great honor and learning experience to work with Team RUSH. The Comets defeated us in the finals here last year, so it was good to be on the same side this time. You both taught us a few things about this game that we will apply going forward.

Congratulations to 2054, 67, and 107 on your great effort. 2054 - I just checked the FiM site and realized that this was your first event. The way you handled the game I always thought it was your second. You are an excellent team with a strong machine. 67 - You obviously got the bugs worked out from Kettering. You had the best all-around machine on the field, and your team is a class act in victory or defeat. We hope to see you on the same side of the glass one of these days. 107 - You have been great friends to the NC Gears for as long as we have been around. You have one of the few machines we couldn't push around this weekend.

Congratulations to 1718 on the District Chairman's award, 27 on Engineering Inspiration, and 3452 on Rookie All-Star.

Our head scout, Felipe, pointed out that the #1 alliance has never won the WMD (since FiM). We managed to benefit from that in 2009 and 2011, but were on the losing end of the deal in 2010. Hmmmm.

Hope to see you all at State.
