Best Robot
I was just wondering what do people think the best robot is this year? I was at the WPI Regional and definitely the best Robot there was team 40's, they could hang two logos and had a first place minibot almost every time.

Re: Best Robot
defintly 1114, no question about it. 3 logos, 1 second minibot, .6 sec from ground to top peg, so far there's no beating that. unless they're the only team on their alliance and you have 3 scoring machines.

Re: Best Robot
Technically the best robot is 148.
Best minibot and robot is 1114. |

A ROBOT is a HOSTBOT plus a MINIBOT

Re: Best Robot
Around the top level, a lot of the robots have about the same capabilities. I believe that 1114 is no outlier this year, and that teams like 111 and 254 have robots that are just as good. What it comes down to at the high level is having a consistent and effective autonomous, very good, well practiced drivers, and grand strategy. There really isn't a robot this year that can dominate all others, and there is no clear winner, despite what you 1114-hypers like to believe every year. I do believe that 1114's ability to score two Ubertubes in autonomous is a huge advantage for them, along with the other teams who can do the same, but that just means they have good programmers, not a robot that's better than everyone else's.

Re: Best Robot
I'm going to have to say 40. They know how to run a match, and an alliance.

Re: Best Robot
Here's looking at it by OPR (these are just selected teams, I haven't run it for every regional)
1114 @ PIT: 62 111 @ WI: 58 33 @ Kettering: 56 148 @ STX: 56 987 @ SD: 55 217 @ FLR: 54 2056 @ FLR: 52 254 @ SD: 49 40 @ WPI: 40 It's not a perfect measurement (different regionals, different weeks, ignores eliminations), but it gives a nice mathematical ranking and correlates nicely with all the robots mentioned so far in the thread. Imagine if 111 had a double-tube autonomous... Last edited by Bongle : 23-03-2011 at 10:09. |

I assume that roughly 24 hours from now we won't have to imagine what that will look like?

Re: Best Robot
I decided to just run it for all regionals. So here are the top 25 OPRs done so far. If a team is there twice, it means they've done two regionals and performed strongly at both (or my script was messed up, which it was. If a team is there twice with the same OPR, it means I double-counted them)
Code:
67 64.1978 1114 62.9768 111 58.752 2054 58.5124 2415 57.7935 234 57.0967 33 56.7075 148 56.5229 1678 55.5372 987 55.1992 217 54.4144 2056 52.7503 217 52.6689 2512 49.8532 254 49.1796 456 48.4294 1023 48.3657 935 47.6648 1676 46.3775 2016 45.5644 1218 45.5229 876 44.9698 573 43.6522 Last edited by Bongle : 23-03-2011 at 10:24. |

Yes having other data such as blocking data and what not is useful, however its impossible to correlate that into a statistical analysis we can use across every competition. OPR isn't the end all be all metric of a team's success, but this list has some pretty darn good robots on it so its valid in some sense. As far as no one robot standing out in a big way, I have to disagree there. Look at 67 and 1114 both well into the 60s. The 3rd highest is 111 at 58 and then theres a steady decline from there. These 2 teams to me seem to be standing out in some degree above the rest. However, taking a team with say a 58 OPR and dropping them in the same competition as 67 or 1114 may result in either team's number fluctuating based on the equalized playing field. It's actually a more direct way to get the response, or submit your opinion. There are two polls, one expert and one not. |
