What are the ways to get into the championship?

being that next year it will be my last/second year on the team before graduating, i am going to try as hard as i can to get us into championships if at all possible (we were rookies this year), so i was wondering what are the different ways a team can get invited to championships? i know the obvious way is to win regionals, and i heard winning the rookie allstar award gets you in as well (which we obviously cant win next year), but what are any other ways?

also is it known the location of championships next year? and if not when will it be known?

thanks a lot in advance for all help.

Re: What are the ways to get into the championship?

Location: St. Louis again, IIRC. FIRST likes to do multi-year hosting deals.

Getting there: Legacy teams, Hall of Fame teams, and returning champions are in automatically.

Rookie All-Star, Regional Chairman's Award, Regional Champion, and Engineering Inspiration qualify you to go in that year.

OR, the REALLY EASY way:

When second event registration opens up, have someone with a finger on the mouse button to register for one of the open slots. Not all the slots are qualification-only.

There's a priority list that if you don't go to national the previous year you guys can go pending other teams in your position as well. Also the more years you don't go the higher priority you get. So yeah that's a way. I might be a little off because i don't know this word for word but this is the reason our team is going.

All right, I found it...

Note that this is for this year, but hasn't changed much for several years.

Re: What are the ways to get into the championship?

Note that signing up if you are not previously qualified by merit will cost you a by-in, which I am not sure the amount, and is added on top of the normal registration fee. These spots are limited, as said before.

You pay the same registration fee for Championships regardless of whether you qualify or register through the open registration.

The only exception to that is the new NASA sponsorship of Engineering Inspiration award winners, covering part of their Champs registration ($3k).

I don't know where you get that information from.

The Championship registration fee does need to be paid, REGARDLESS of whether you qualified by merit or by open registration. There is NO buy-in on top of that registration fee, however.

The Championship registration fee is completely separate from both your initial registration fee and any 2nd (third, fourth, etc) regional fee, which are also independent of each other.

Where did you get this information? It's not on the FIRST website, neither the Championship Eligibility page nor the Registration Pricing and Payment page.
