Teams 188, 1114 and others in Professionally Speaking Magazine
During the 2010 season, Team 1114 had the opportunity to be interviewed by Professionally Speaking magazine for a short story in the June 2010 edition. Professionally Speaking is a magazine that is sent out to all 430,000 members of the Ontario College of Teachers. After a little bit of convincing by some dedicated FIRSTers, the magazine decided to assign a writer, Michael Benedict, to do a feature story on the 2011 FRC season in Ontario. The article focused mainly on Teams 188, 1114 and 1846, but also gave a great overview of FIRST in general. This 11 page article was one of the most complete media portrayals of an FRC season that I've ever ever seen.
The full digital version of the article can be found here: http://professionallyspeaking.oct.ca...es/robots.aspx While a scanned copy of the magazine can be found on the Team 1114 Facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/frc1114 Last edited by Karthik : 02-09-2011 at 20:43. Reason: Updated with the link to the full 2011 article! |

Re: Teams 188, 1114 and others in Professionally Speaking Magazine
It is a great article but, according to the OCT website, there are 229 000 members rather than 430 000. It is the largest self-regulatory body in Canada. In order to teach (including supply teaching) in a publicly-funded school in Ontario, you have to be a member.

Re: Teams 188, 1114 and others in Professionally Speaking Magazine
So, 200,000 members in bad standing? (or good sitting??)
Seriously: The actual numbers aren't that important. Just consider the influence upon education these members have! Ad for FIRST to get this kind of exposure... well, that's excellent! I especially like the "What you need" section. |
