Your favorite demonstration?
Panthrobotics had a lot of fun this weekend.
We were invited by a professor at Louisiana State University to hold a robotics class for 27 3rd - 5th grade students. They got to drive our 2010-2011 robot and create model robots in groups. At the end we gave them an "Official Driver" certificate. If you'd like to see pics, take a look at our Facebook fan page: http://www.facebook.com/Panthrobotics This leads me to my discussion: What is the most entertaining, exciting, or engaging presentation that you've ever done with one of your bots as a team? Thanks, Daniel |

Re: Your favorite demonstration?
One of the favorite demos we've done would be our 2010 Breakaway bot. Meccanum wheels going omnidirectional and kicking soccer balls draws a crowd. Generally anything that moves unconventionally and makes noise works for us

Re: Your favorite demonstration?
So far my favorite demonstration was at a St. Louis Cardinals game, where we drove our t-shirt launcher in the plaza and handed out buttons. Then we went out on the field for the pre-game ceremonies and shot some t-shirts at the crowd.

Re: Your favorite demonstration?
i'd have to say it's a tie for me.
one we did that got kids of a fairly wide age group (~5-14) involved was at a law firm. they invited us to come and demo, and after we talked a bit and showed the robot we did a sort of relay race thing. there were two kids per a round, we gave 1 a triangle, 1 a square, and then put 2 circles in between them. the first one to hang their shape and then run back and get the circle and then hang it won. it was very entertaining to watch. we made the older kids go for the top, which was great to watch! and we picked on some of the adults there too.... we let some of the older kids (and an adult) drive the robot.another one was at a senior citizen living community near us, it was great to see their faces light up that kids could build these things. they asked a lot of questions afterwards. i think we instilled some hope in them for our generation, which was great to see! |

Re: Your favorite demonstration?
In 2010, We brought our Breakaway and Aim High robot to Washington D.C. for a Science and Engineering festival on the National Mall. We spent a few days demonstrating our robot for all the attendees and visited the various landmarks of the city. We even met Mythbusters co-host Kari Byron, who took a team picture with us! It was an awesome experience overall. Definitely not the typical demonstration. |

Re: Your favorite demonstration?
Favorite demos:
-FLL tournament demo at HFRS with 2010 (Breakaway) robot - In a joint demo between us and team 910, we were both sitting there while the concept of FRC was explained (by one of the leaders of the FLL tournament). All of the kids shouted "FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT", to which the response was "no, they don't fight, they play together". After that was said, we both rushed for a single soccer ball in the middle of the room and collided, and 910 rolled slightly, and it was awesome. -Chrysler Tech Center demo 2010 (Breakaway) - About 16 Chrysler-sponsored teams were invited to put on a demo at Tech Plaza (the center of the Chrysler Tech Center), for Chrysler employees. They used one of the FIM fields, and setup a partial field with a few bumps and a tower (due to the space constraints of Tech Plaza and the fact that escalators run right through the middle, there wasn't enough space for a full field). So, we had 16 teams playing sorta (no real playing, just demonstration on a partial field), and thousands of Chrysler employees walking around and talking to us (or just looking down from the levels above). -Related to above - 2011 Ship Day sponsor demo - We used Tech Plaza again for a ship day party, where we invited sponsors to talk to us about the latest robot. We brought both (they looked almost identical, or close enough), plus a few old robots for display. We hung tubes, drank sparkling grape juice, and talked to sponsors about robots. -Detroit Maker Faire 2011 - We and a few other FRC teams setup a mini-field inside the Henry Ford museum for the Maker Faire. At one point, one of the BB transmissions powering the lift died for unknown reasons, jamming up the entire elevator and tripping the breakers of both motors. Lacking any sort of spare parts (this is a demo after all), we pulled the breakers, zip-tied the elevator down and played only on the low row. We could still fill the entire low row (4 logos - we filled both low rows) in a few minutes, with time spare to take a few tubes back off again. |
