2012 Queen City FRC Regional
I wanted to get this going early to get the hype going. We on the planning committee are hoping, correction, know we are going to throw a great regional. With countless years of FIRST experience and Regional attendance, our goal is to bring the best of what we have seen and haven't seen to the Queen City Regional. I hope to see you all there, competing and/or volunteering.

Re: 2012 Queen City FRC Regional
Since this is the first year for the QCR, there are no usual suspects.
As of 7:50EST on 9/30/2011, the attending teams are 144 554 829 1014 1038 1249 1739 1772 3201 3945 If this event is sponsored by NASA, I'd hope to see 1529, and many more Indiana teams, added to the mix. The Xavier campus is beautiful; the Cintas Center is fantastic. There are a lot of great attractions around the Cincinnati area, including a world-class aquarium and zoo, a museum campus, a vibrant downtown, fantastic sports tradition, and more. I'm sure Jimmy can fill in the blanks I've left. What a great gift to have a Week 6 event. Hopefully by that time field issues will be worked out, the game will be refined to its "final" playing configuration*, and the logistics will be smooth so that the event, venue, and planners can shine! * of course there has to be a couple silly rules left so IRI can "fix" them and Paul can go on his annual rant. Re: 2012 Queen City FRC Regional
Taylor just about hit it all. One thing he left out was this same weekend is Open day for the Cincinnati Reds. They are still debating on whether it will be Thursday or Friday. There is an issue with the Opening day parade being on Good Friday.

Re: 2012 Queen City FRC Regional
Like I said in a previous thread, 1528 Monroe Trojan Robotics hopefully will be able to get into this event. I have to wait for the second event registration to open but I will be at TIMS waiting to register the instant we can sign-up. I look at this as a warm-up for the Michigan State Championship and hopefully others from Michigan can start the Queen City Regional with a bang.

Re: 2012 Queen City FRC Regional
Agree with Taylor and Jimmy. We're planning an awesome event. Our planning committee has some fantastic members who have been involved with FIRST on multiple levels for many years. The event will have many things to offer our teams and participants, including some FIERCE week 6 competition. Our event website will be launched in the next few weeks.
We'd love to have some of our Northern friends join in the fun! |

Re: 2012 Queen City FRC Regional
I'd really like for the TechnoKats to attend the inaugural Queen City Regional. Unfortunately, it looks like a lot of the students are worried about it being during Spring Break with a band event nearby on the calendar. That's making competitions during weeks 5 and 6 very unlikely for us.
I'll probably burn a vacation day and volunteer there. |

Re: 2012 Queen City FRC Regional
We (the Bad Robots of 1014) are looking forward to the inaugural Queen City Regional. It takes me back to my teaching (Cincinnati City Schools) and FIRST (Walnut Hills) roots. Looking forward to it, even though I may have to miss the finals due to another commitment.

I hope to be volunteering there--maybe as an inspector.
Oh yeah, and I'll bring 3193 Falco Tech with me...and maybe a couple other friends as well ! |

Re: 2012 Queen City FRC Regional
There, I fixed that for you.
48, 379, and 3193 all intend to register for Cincinnati from the Youngstown-Warren area. 3138 will be joining up as well, as I convinced them to sign up for Pittsburgh first. Good call, eh? I've also heard that several out of state high power teams are at least "considering" attending. Hopefully some of them join the party! Speaking of party, does the regional committee expect to organize some kind of Friday team party activity? Just wondering. |

Re: 2012 Queen City FRC Regional
If we are able to raise enough funds to cover the event and have some leftover, we are allowed to have an official Team Social. I would love to have one, but we have to wait and see.

Re: 2012 Queen City FRC Regional
I really envy the fact that Indiana teams can just drive a few hours to get to Cincinnati and participate in this one as well.
If in the future Purdue and the Cincinnati one are back to back weekends, that would make for a good two event trip. |

Re: 2012 Queen City FRC Regional
I was disappointed to find out that NASA didn't include the Queen City Regional in their list of Regional Challenge Grants. Looks like if we're going to go, we need to get money the hard way.
Unless I'm reading this wrong, and please tell me I am. The text says grants are available for veteran teams attending a first-year competition; then it lists the competitions as DC, NC, UT, and FL. However, those are all 2+ year competitions. I'm hoping this means first-year grants as well as the four listed - ? Can somebody confirm (I don't think Mr. Lavery is near a computer right now, and if he is, he's going by it at about 25mph). |
