FRC 1311 - Kell Robotics is opening a 3,745 sq. ft. facility in Kennesaw Georgia. Headquarters will still be at Kell High School, but the majority of resources and much activity will be at the 'IC'.

In addition to hosting team activities, a major purpose of the facility is to train other robotics teams and other community groups in robotics and other STEM activities.

Kell Robotics Innovation Center to open in Kennesaw, Georgia

Kell students to learn invention, innovation and leadership skills and teach these skills to other students.


Marietta, GA, November 28, 2011 — The Kell High School Robotics Team is opening the Kell Robotics Innovation Center in Kennesaw, Georgia. Students will be able to learn about innovation and invention, and how innovation brings value to our community. The center will be open by early December, 2011.

“This Innovation Center is providing our team with a fantastic opportunity to perform public education outreach” said Carlie Schulter, Executive Director of the Kell Robotics Team. “We will be able to train our team members, and very importantly, train students from all around Georgia in innovation, robotics, inventions, leadership, business practices, and other skills that are very valuable to these students.”

The Kell team is a Lemelson-MIT InvenTeam having received a $ 10,000 grant in 2010 and is a continuing Lemelson-MIT InvenTeam for 2011-2012. The Kell team works with mentors and establishes partner relationships with professionals from industry, academia and municipalities in their communities. This past June, the team participated in EurekaFest at MIT in Cambridge, Mass. EurekaFest, presented by the Lemelson-MIT Program, is a multi-day celebration designed to empower a legacy of inventors through activities that inspire youth, honor role models, and encourage creativity and problem solving.

The Kell team is also part of FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), a global program created to get students excited about science and technology by enabling them to design and build interactive robots. FIRST is a not-for-profit founded by inventor Dean Kamen to celebrate science and technology via robotics competitions worldwide.

“Student interest in learning how to innovate and how to create technological inventions, robotics, and other science activities is growing at phenomenal rate here in Georgia and this facility is just what our team needs to help support the level of growth.” said Ed Barker, Program Director of Kell Robotics. “The growth rate of robotics programs is one of the highest nationally and we need this to help train all the volunteers, teachers, and students, not only in technology, but in how to run an effective sustainable student organizations, skills needed when these students enter the business world.”

This 3,745 square foot facility was made possible by a partnership between Kell Robotics and Shaheen & Co, an Atlanta area commercial real estate developer. About The Kell High School Robotics Team

The Kell High School Robotics Team is an extracurricular activity at the Carlton J. Kell High School in Marietta Georgia. The high school is a Georgia Public school that is part of the Cobb County School District. This program complements the school’s missions by creating hands on opportunities to motivate and educate students.

Today was a great day.

We trained about 60 people, from four 4-H, one Boys & Girls Club, and two Future Seekers rookies team.

We gave them a brain tattoo on mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, programming, fundraising and sustainability, teamwork and teambuilding, safety and more.

Next week, another Boys & Girls Club.
