Robot exceeds frame perimeter
Can our Robot exceed the frame perimiter?
Our team didn't really understand since under <R02> \ E it says: "no other part of the Robot may extend beyond the vertical projection of the Frame Perimeter (with the exception of minor protrusions permitted per 0)." This stands in contrast to ,<R02> \ D, but what did the manual mean by "any appendage"? This seem to limit what we can do in the game as a whole, how can a robot even get the bridge to tilt if we can't extend beyond the bumpers? Please enlighten us! |

Look at part D. to [R02]:
"any appendage may not extend more than 14 in. beyond the frame perimeter, and" which is followed immediately by part E.: "no other part of the robot may extend beyond the vertical projection of the frame perimeter..." Where the "no other part" references the appendage in part D. In other terms, you can have one appendage which may extend no more than 14 in. beyond the frame perimeter out at any one time. If you have two appendages, they can't both be out at the same time, even if they are less than 7 inches out (summing to be less than 14 in.). |

Or at least no direct dunking, but you can most definitely close the gap to within about 3 inches...the trouble would be having others bump into you.

So does this include the height dimensions? Meaning that the maximum height is really 74 inches in the alliance station and 98 elsewhere on the court?

The maximum height is 60" to start [R02], but may extend to 84" tall once the match starts (as long as your robot is not on your opposing alliance's half of the court), [G20].
The 14" is for being OUTSIDE your Frame Perimeter and it's vertical projection. |

What that rule is for is mushroom bots my team had to add on to our frame last year becauseour gear guard stuck out past our frame. Appendages can only stick out14inches though.they just don't want a robot with stuff sticking outside the frame causing a safety hazard

Hmm. I see. [G21] also states that only one appendage may be deployed at any time. But good point.

Hi! In the rule G20, they say: ''Robots in contact with the carpet on their Alliance Station end of the Court are limited to 60 in tall. Otherwise, Robots are limited to 84 in tall.'' and so, what place do they mean when they talking about the carpet on they Alliance Station end of the court.

It means that the robot cannot be above 5' when it is on the half of the court closest to its alliance station, but can be up to 7' on the other half.
Basically, you have to be short when you're defensive, but you can be tall when you're offensive. |

For anyone still confused about the description "mushroom bot", it refers to a robot that's designed to have a drivebase smaller than the maximum legal size but have parts above the base extending out to the maximum allowed dimensions. It was a phrase used the first year bumpers were mandatory, as an example of something that didn't obey the rules. The primary intent of the bumpers is to have only bumper-to-bumper contact between robots.

(1) Can we have two arms to push down the bridge, especially if another robot is on it already, for stability reasons? (2) what if a drive shaft links the two arms - would that count as ONE appendage - as it is one mechanism.

I would say as long as one shaft, or gears and chains connecting multiple shafts is driving both, I'd say it's one appendage.
