Motor/cRIO issue

Hey.

I've finally managed to get Wind River to properly work with my cRIO

The thing is, I've used the Simple Robot Example to check if everything works, and it seems that the code does not turn on my one motor.

The motor is connected through a jaguar to Module 4 on the cRIO, and the 2012 Imaging Tool tells me:
"NI 9403 : Slot 4: Incompatible module for this slot. Must be empty.", Is my motor connected to the wrong module?

I've debugged my program and made sure that the appropriate code is indeed executed, the Drive function is called with the correct ports; But still, my motor does not turn on, and my Jaguars aren't signaling anything..

I would be grateful if you can suggest any solution to this issue..

The modules have all shuffled around this year. The Digital Module should be connected to Port 2. Check out the Getting Started with the 2012 Control System document for details, but basically it should be Analog in slot 1, Digital in slot 2 and Solenoid in slot 3.

Which cRio do you have, the 8-slot or the 4-slot? There were some changes made to the slot order for this year with the new image.

From an e-mail we got as Beta Testers:

All teams will now be working with the new cRIO images which require the new module order. There is a new module order for 2012 to create some symmetry between the 8-slot and 4-slot cRIOs. The new module order is as follows:

1 - Analog Module 9201
2- Digital Module 9403
3 - Solenoid Module 9472
4 - Empty on 8-slot, Any module on 4-slot
5 - Analog Module 9201
6- Digital Module 9403
7 - Solenoid Module 9472
8 - Empty

If anyone can find this info posted someplace official, that would be awesome...


My guess is you have an old 8-slot cRio, and are using the same setup as last year, with your Digital module in slot 4. Move it to slot 2, and I think it'll work for you.

I have an old cRIO and the FRC cRIO imaging tool keeps telling me that Slot and Slot 3 have Incompatible module in those slots even though I have the 9403 (Digital) in Slot 2 and the 9472 (Solenoid) in slot 3.

Any body else having this issue?

Just for a test I moved the cards back to the OLD slots and the tool said they are OK now. So are we supposed to move these cards as per the Getting Started with the 2012 FRC Control System or NOT?

What Image is on the cRIO, the tool should tell you that they belong in the old slots with an old image and in the new slots with the new (v43) image.

After you've updated the cRio (and your local tools) to the latest versions, you'll need to use the new slots. I have a feeling this is going to cause plenty of headaches for teams this year...

I thought I had the latest version finally (been fighting with it....bricked the cRIO once and had to use last year's image tool to get it back). But double checked and NO I did not. Went back and did the 2012 image tool (and FRC_2012_v43.zip version) and it tells me the following:

Unable to complete operation because of unexpected error:
Error -2147220304 occurred at nisyscfg.lvlib:Restart.vi:1

Possible reason(s):

NI System Configuration: (Hex 0x800404B0) Timeout while waiting for reboot. System is offline.

and when I close the error window the current image says "Unknown" and on a cRIO the status light blinks 2x indicating the new update did not take.

IP's are correct (this is a test robot/cRIO so we call it team 9999 and the IP address of the laptop is set at 10.99.99.6.

It is connected to the crio via a crossover cable directly connected to th crio and the wifi is off.

Any Ideas?

We were a Beta test team this past fall, and I'm pretty sure we saw this exact same issue with one of our cRio's (we have two - one from the first year they were included in the KoP, and another one we purchased in Dec 2010 so we'd have two last season). I can't be positive though, because I never looked closely at the error myself (one of the other mentors was working with the team on that).

I just got word back from our lead programming mentor that they finally got it to update successfully last night, though! Give this a try:

it finally updated successfully yesterday by unchecking the box on the authentication tab of the local area connection properties....no ieee authentication needed. having it checked with all of the other crio updates til now hadn't mattered and it didn't matter on the newer crio, just the oldest one. weird...

Nop that wasn't it. But it did give me an idea. I have been using two laptops configured to be programming computers for the team (NOT the netbooks with the image from First). SO I grabbed the newly imaged netbook and guess what it worked!

My guess is that they did do something on the image (firewall, setting something) that lets the imaging tool work.

I am going to post it on their forum and see what they say.
