Some Good Flash Tutorials

Greetings all.

For a Game Design class, myself and several friends are taking on a group independent study to learn Adobe Flash. We're making a 4 player game based on chess that contains some added pieces of our own. I am new to flash and only really know the kind of programming logic used in robotics. I have also worked with java to make games but it was using a drag and drop interface in Alice. Is there anyone out there that could send me some tutorials that will get me where I need to be? Obviously I understand basic computer logic, so explanations of logic aren't really needed unless its something new in flash I do not already know. I have noticed that, at least in the files I have reviewed so far, variables are not usually made at the beginning of the code like I am use to. Is this common or am I looking at code made by people who do not understand computer theory?
