Ten teams from S.E. Michigan and Ohio participated in the grand opening of the new Rock Financial Showplace convention center by staging a full-blown FIRST robotics competition. AKA, the 1st annual Novi Expo-tition?
Although the number of teams was modest, the quality of the competition was something to brag about. Included in the list of teams were five national champions, two of this year’s national silver medallists, and three also-rans who were able to run a match every 30 minutes for ten hours, and never miss a starting da-da-dot-da-da!
The event was coordinated by two of this year’s champions, teams 503-Frog Force and 67-Hot, as a way to say thanks to the Novi Expo Center for providing us a place to host the FIRST-Novi kickoff in January.
One of the teams was only able to show up Friday evening, and two were only able to appear on Saturday; so, we weren’t able to do the usual qualifying – elimination format to determine the winners. OTOH, we really didn’t need to – we all won this weekend!
