Go to Post One last thing, if a mechanical part fails on you, sometimes you can get a little bit of noise back into it by yelling at it, kicking it, or pounding on it with your fist. This might put enough back into it so it will work for a few more minutes. KenWittlief
Go to Post To me, every robot is a moving mechanical art form, a sculpture made of aluminum, motors and gears, and I think that soon we will be seeing those art forms involved in some of the most fantastic robotic "dances" that any of us have ever seen DougHogg
Go to Post I don't understand why it should matter if your robot is 100% student built, 100% engineer built or somewhere in between. As long as you are Inspired (I word again) FIRST is getting its point and primary goal across.
Go to Post FIRST is inspiration. No matter how you do it, you learn something. Stop being silly. Stop making accusations. Go build robots. Now. Aignam
Go to Post MORAL: Always wear safety glasses when you're putting on your safety glasses. ;) Joel Glidden

Go to Post FIRST doesnt care about the weather, and we still need a working robot. Mike Heinowski
Go to Post We are not here to build robots, or to win a contest, or to travel to cool places or to bring home trophies. we are here to see what a career in engineering and science is like; anything else that happens along the way is frosting on the cake KenWittlief
Go to Post You know, sometimes it is really cool to be a geek! dlavery Chase

Go to Post I don't think it's that big of a deal if FIRST makes a few mistakes or cuts back every now and then. Personally, I'm just glad I have the opportunity to be in this program. Crop-Circles Billfred
Go to Post Everyone needs to start working with what they are given, and start appreciating FIRST, not complaining about what they think FIRST is doing wrong. Marygrace
Go to Post Most of all, I long to give others a chance to experience what I did with FIRST, to give people from my home town that opportunity, because FIRST really is that once in a lifetime opportunity that so many people dont get a chance to be a part of. It shouldnt be that way. Jacqui Sutton
Go to Post When fun is outlawed, only outlaws will have fun. Gadget470
Go to Post This isn't just a robot competition, it's not robots driving robots. It's people driving robots, and teams of people who have put a lot into making the robots work. Gadget470

Go to Post Don't over analyze every possibility. Studying a problem too much doesn't help any more than not studying it enough. dlavery
Go to Post In my opinion, the hardest part of the competition is not that actual manufacture of the robot, but the design process. It is the enginners that go through the design process all the time that will have the edge in this competition, not the best machinist. Wetzel
Go to Post I like anything that is designed to bounce for up to 10 minutes. Expecially if it lands right side up :) GregT
