The worst that happens is we try our best and lose. And there's no shame in that. |

So the bar is set insanely high. Probably unachievably high for some of us. But what a shame it would be to lower it. |

It is impossible to be grumpy about anything when eating biscotti made by one's beautiful wife, drinking tea sweetened by one's own honey, warmed by a wood stove, and with a dog asleep on one's foot. Simply impossible. |

I think that in general people should worry more about what they are doing, and less about what others are doing. That goes for a lot more than FIRST. |

I've completely figured [the hint] out:
Robots will have to move around, and also displace objects in order to score points.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that we have to displace objects and/or robots in order to score points. |

Sometimes students ask me if MIT wants students who are well-rounded. I usually say I don't care as much if you're well-rounded or pointy, what I care about is evaluating the space enclosed by the shape. |

Students can learn to drive on whatever they give us. Ramps, carpet, grating, HDPE, lexan, diamond plate, regolith, other robots the driver station wall, referees, stairs, Dean, the bar, goals, the scorer's table, you name it, I've watched robots somehow manage to drive on it |

It's rather simple: you start with a block of solid and remove material until you just have the robot left. Kind of like making a sandcastle. Only harder. |

I bet a lot of us (mentors and students) got into this line of work first because we wondered how things work, and stayed in it because we thought "I can make that work better". Thus starts a life-long battle between perfection and time. So far, time is ahead. |
