On our 2004 robot we utilize, not one, but two gyros. Our horizontally mounted gyro is employed to compute our robot’s heading, both relative and absolute, while our vertically mounted gyro is used to detect x-axis tilt.

There has been a number of discussions on using gyros on the forum. This whitepaper is a nice summary of 3 different ways a gyro can be used. If additional programming help is needed, please contact the white-paper author.
